Pilot rating

The new rating is strange.

It is supposed to work higher equals better, right?

Because i have been on 7k for a while playing moderately well t5. Then i do some t2, logically quite well in terms of synergy and winning, and it goes down to 3000!

Going back to t5, where i again am worse than in t2, and it goes steadily up again.

So it seems to me the pilot rating is at the moment showing which tier you play?! This cant be correct?

It’s Tiered. The lower you go, the less of it you have, no matter how good you play.

It encourages veterans players from seal clubbing but discourage veterans from teaching new players and invited pals. It also encourages nооbs to tier rush.

^^^ What he said.

It just encouraged me to not care about anymore.

Like we cared in the first place. DSR says nothing.

Here’s the thing that I don’t fully understand.

I can CLEARLY see the maximum faction rank a pilot has acquired.  I don’t want to see which tier they’re playing in based on their skill rating.  I had a skill rating of 8,000 just by playing T3 and consistently winning and being at the top of my team.  But my max ship rank is 12; so how can ANYONE know exactly which tier I play in?  I could be playing in T4 and have an average rating.  Also, I could have a rating of 3000 playing in T3 if I always lost and was at the bottom, but then again, I could also be winning in T2…

I understand the new rating system prevents veterans from wanting to play in low tiers, and that’s fine.  But what I will not accept is being penalized as a mentor for wanting to fly with my recruits.  I lose rating SO fast, and it’s unfair…seeing how mentoring was supposed to be encouraged.  So how about “mentors flying with their recruits in T1 will not have their pilot rating affected by the battle”. This shouldn’t be an issue, since this is very rare, imo.

Pointless mechanic is pointless.

Yeah but it soon goes back up again.  my rating in t3 is about 6000, after about half an hour of sec con it’s back up to 7000 and if I go the full hour, I can usually reach 7500.

It’s just really volatile, so doesn’t mean much any more, which is a good thing.  Besides, you cannot see pilot rating while in battle anymore, which was the only reason it was previously interesting for me, to identify potential threats.

The rating system is strange to me.  I did a sec con for an hour and was team engie support in a T-Rex.  I only died 2 times overall to some skilled WPK players and got at least 20 kills and multiple assists over the entire 1 hour of multiple battles spent on sector conquest (We won every match too).  Despite playing fairly well for an engie, I lost over 1000 rating points.  It dropped me from 9860 ish (weekly ranked 6th) to 8700ish and way out of the top rankings.  Weekly leaders were announced shortly after, so I missed out on getting that achievement T_T.

I personally don’t care much about ratings.  The only reason I wanted it high that week was to get the one achievement.  But, I am pretty confused about how it actually works.

From what I understand from the patch notes, it is not about kill/death ratio anymore, but rather a measure of how much you contribute to the victory. If you are top of you team’s list in a victory (efficiency-wise) then it goes up a lot. If you are top of the list in a defeat, then it goes down by a little.

That’s how I see it, now maybe there is some consideration of k/d that was not mentioned in the patch notes…

Either way generally if you get more kills then you will get higher efficiency score.

as told in former posts the actual form of pilot ranking does make pilots not to mentor. is sad as mentoring is not as bad for new pilots. should be fixed.

Pilot rating means nothing.

Most t5 battles that i play are 3v3.

It’s extremely easy to get first place in a 3v3 and up goes your skill rating.

IMO, there’s no 100% solid way to judge skill. I had a roughly 1.4 w/l rating b4 i started sec con in rank 11 white ships as a Ace. My w/l went to .86 and my average kills per battle dropped too.

The best way to judge skill is the combo of pilot rating, win/loss ratio, avg. kills, and avg. assists. If all of the above are fairly high, the player is most likely good. (Skill rating is used to show what tier they fly more than anything)

dmg/game is also good indicator

nr. vast majority of t5 games are 3v3 so that’s a bad comparison, like average kills/assists.

Yeah my average kills and assists is going up so much since I have been playing a lot of t3 recently.  Bigger games = more kills and more assists.

Stats don’t really mean much, or else you have to consider all of them together.  You mention average damage tillo, but average heals is also very important, to show if that pilot plays engis, an essential part of squad play.

Stats are just numbers, and numbers can be cheated.  The best way to know if a pilot is good is to squad with them using teamspeak, and see how they react in certain situations.  Are they a team player?  Will they help a teammate in danger?  Do they know the basic tactics?  Do they often over-extend?  Do they get tunnel-vision?  Do they die a lot? Do they have a sense of going for objectives, or do they just kill?  Do they blame everything and everyone except themselves?  And the best question to know their temper: how do they react to being ECMed/tackled with low health and no actives left?

wut

for past year I played mostly T5(or seccon) and my dmg/game didnt went down… that’s like 3-4k games in t5

@millan

you think too much, just keep it simple and pew pew with others

Oh that’s just the theory, I’m not against a good pew pew with my friends, even if they and I both play bad XD
