I am looking for a Nyx fit for mainly open space and some pvp. Any advice?
Nyx has such nice base stats that basically lets you do whatever to it and its still great.
The Reaper-8 shield converter is very nice, and so is the adaptive plugin CPU. If you focus more heavy targets, you may want to trade the adaptive plugin for the supernova torpedo active module. Otherwise, orca is right. That ship let’s you do basically whatever and still be good. (as long as you can fly covops)
I wouldn’t recommend using deconstruction cannon or front blaster, as using either of them makes you look like a d**k.

How is the drop rate for the Reaper-8? Also is the alien gun worth it on Nyx? Which gun do you recommend?

Drop rate is very nice. I got three just today.
And the Sk’rah is very nice on the Nyx. So is the Phase Suppressor.
