NPC Dynamics

Right now we have two ways NPCs act in space:

1: fly around

2: fight

that’s it.

I suggest that a more lively system of interactions be implemented in Open Space so that it just feels a little less redundant.

Some new interactions could include:

  • Scavenging : picking up parts and debris etc

  • mining : hitting rocks with lasers to break off interactible ores (that players could steal)

  • grouping : Everyone likes to just hang out sometimes. Let bots just chill in secluded areas for an indeterminate reason too.

  • trading : why don’t we ever see bots exchanging items?

  • hunting : bots in OS generally have a single team of allies and everything else is a target, but some hostile enemies need to be given “missions” to take out certain targets or grab certain items. This could give players in OS more rivalry against the bots too, without actual combat.

  • building : NPCs should be able to build outposts (and destroy/repair them) instead of just having them float around all static like. Players should be able to build outposts, fortresses, beacons, etc in OS too.

  • engineering : some ships in OS need to be purpose-built to heal any damaged ship they find. It just seems like something that should happen. Maybe have repair turrets on large stations that shoot lasers.

And much much more!

Im liking this.

Just waiting for my Ellydium Guard and Command ships  ![:(:](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/(.png “:(:”)

Why do I always attract completely irrelevant comments? Every single time I start a topic someone comes in with “I really like Raspberry tea” or other equally not-relevant comment.

This needs to stop.

I’m not a big fan of Open Space mode but I think it’s a good idea, Bots should have some kind of political social organization: Workers , SoldiersBuilders , Just like a Ant Colony.

The point of my comment is that the game development process is getting slower and slower, I suppose all Ellydium Ships should be already released long time ago, How much time it will take? And How much time will take for another thing?

Hello, yes, would you be interested in investing in the stock market? I have a distant relative in an African country of questionable origin and trustworthiness which is interested in initiating a grand business venture with you, call me for more details, you’ll just have to elbow your way through a 2-mile radius worth of single people looking for some hooks, no tricks no credit cards, just coupons, please.

I mean it obviously would be nice to have bots do more things in OS but I’m not sure at this point how easily they can squeeze new AI behavior of such a degree, we’ll see what the other OS rework will do, and I’ll have to make a new guide about it…
