No real progress?

Is it just me, or is there no real progress when I get new ships/tiers? I am currently playing interceptors, but it does not feel like i make a noticable step forward when I buy a new ship. Nearly same hull-points, same shield-points, velocity even decreases etc…

The only thing i really notice are the new looks… and additional mod space. Am I missing something?

Edit: I forgot additional synergy-levels.

Feels like that to me too

First of all, check the bonus credits for that ship.

Some ship lines are a bit same-ey.

Some are quite varied.

My Empire Interceptors…I just grab the highest credit bonus with Micro Warp.

Although with Jericho Fighters I use the R4 Machete as a stealth missile boat.

The R5 and R6 I don’t use as my Empire Fighter seems to do it better but if you like Plasma/Rails damage with high projectile speed they do that.

There are definitely a few ships that I just wouldn’t take if the top Rank in that Tier were available.

The development team know how much we use each ship so I’m guessing when they next tweak things the lesser used ships may get a buff.

The blessing is that you are not fighting ships with a dramatically bigger survivability than your ship.

o.O? Zealot 26,7k vs a interceptor t1 is not that fair, i mean u can kill him 1on1, but come on, when do you get the chance to shoot 2 minutes without being destroyed by an incoming “little helper”? xD

Modules are what differentiates the tiers, not base ship stats. Take a look at the ratings of, for example, my Federation frigates:

Raptor [T1] > 17890

Raptor-M [T1] > 21348

Raptor Mk II [T2] > 21362

Alligator-M [T2] > 25776

Notice the trend? They all started out with relatively equal base stats, but through the expanded module selection of higher tiers you’re able to expand on strengths and shore up weaknesses to make a much stronger ship with more utility in combat. The reason you’re probably not seeing much difference between your ship tiers is because you probably have all the best equipment on your lower tier ships and nothing but Mk I trash on your higher tier ships.

This is true. The feeling of progress is sometimes lacking.

This problem is aggravated by several facts:

  • The current Ship tree obligates you to buy every ship in order to get furhter.

  • Mixing Tiers in mm discourages progress.

Giving different roles to ships is good, it offers you different playstyles and increase the value of ships overall, but this is not enough to solve the bad feeling. I have several T4 ships and I dont want to use them, and that is not good. They dont offer me anything new, and repair costs make them unfun and unprofitable.

Maybe a good way to motivate progress is offering new and bigger rewards (Right now there is little to no difference). Crafting could be also used to do that, you could get some materials for crafting as a reward only by playing T4 and T5.

They should take a closer look at World of Tanks. Every new tier brings better weapons (guns), engines, armor (turret). Plus you have to research them, not wait for a blue or even purple drop. Or level your contracts (“Hey, you want that weapon? Sorry, you may get lvl X at faction Y. And if you want another weapon, get lvl A at faction B!” and so on).

And those upgrades (especially on guns) you really recognize in WoT.

Plus you have to research them, not wait for a blue or even purple drop.

If you still believe blue gear is being obtained by drops, you’re in for a nasty surprise when you check the loyalty system.

Got that, but I thought they can drop too  - still counts for purple.

Eh, haven’t encountered this but I only own every jericho ship bought with in game credits up to the end of tier 2.

When I got a new ship it came with a benefit that the prior didn’t have, a new class archetype, or more slots for goodies, just looking at their base stats doesn’t really seem to be the end all be all.
