So I’m having trouble deciding which line of ships I want to level up and wanted to hear some of your opinions and explanations for your opinions.
I’m thinking of either going down the Fed path with ships that have the overdrive module vs the Jericho path with ships that have the diffusion shield module.
I know its basically a matter of choosing offense vs defense but still curious to hear your thoughts.
I’ve read up on ways to keep your diffusion shield kicking butt by using a certain jericho implant, but I know overdrive is great for taking ships out quickly. I feel like I’m leaning more towards Jericho but I also like the fact that the Federation ships are faster. My experience with overdrive so far…awesome when I can keep my reticle aligned with ships…a waste when I’m totally duecing my aim up (play better right fellas? xD). Diffusion shield has helped me survive long enough to make a kill, great for incoming missiles, etc.
What do you guys think? Enlighten me please.
& thanks in advance for though-provoking responses
In my experience, command fighters are great survivors. Put a gravi-scanner, the proper resistance aura(s), and a repair kit, and you can get get out of tight situations, pull out, and go back in the fight after a while. Very good fighters for Realistic/PvE. Command is Jericho’s main fighter schtick, but after flying Imperial fighters for a long time, I can say that the Imperial command fighters are no pushovers, either.
For Federation gunships, you’re gonna have to grind to T3 to get a good one without grinding Empire/spending bucks for a Nukem. Federation gunships have more shielding than Imperial gunships on average, so they can do decent damage with the Particle Purge module.

Awesome thanks a lot for the response CapnNic. Hadn’t given it much thought but yeah I would have to grind a long time before I get the Federation gunship I want. Again, looks like I’m leaning more towards Jericho. Anyone else have any other thoughts/opinions?
Gunships in their entirety are most like a barricuda - they are much faster than command ships and pack a much larger punch, but the moment their overdrive is on cooldown they are much more vulnerable than other ships. command ships i feel are a great starting path as they have a lot of wiggle room for mistakes and their durabilty cooldowns are fairly low. you will quickly notice though as you progress that you tend to make credits faster than synergy, i highly recommend you explore both paths for a while, it’ll only benefit you, as the implant system encourages you to rank up multiple races anyway.
And do note that command ships don’t have to be this tank either, they’re just designed from the ground up as a bruiser, but they can pack quite a punch.
my personal recommendation is stick with commands until lyou get bored of them, getting to T3 shoulden’t take more than a day or two as well, theres plenty of room to explore

Awesome thanks a lot Aircraftman, that really helps me decide what to do. If anyone has other opinions or thoughts please let me know. As of now Aircraftman and CapnNick have given me a lot of good info but please feel free to share your thoughts as I’m always curious. Thanks!!

Actually they are slower, but their Overdrive and Overcharge abilities speed them up temporarily much more than the Command’s speed buff can.
By the way, I’m finding it funny that nobody has mentioned the main role of command ships so far: to provide the team with various buffs.
And that’s also the main difference. Gunships are solo players - fly in, overdrive, brawl several ships down, overcharge engine and fly out and hang back, waiting for ability cooldowns. While on cooldown your survivability is much lower than that of other fighters.
Commands, on the other hand, are team players. Your job is to stick with the group and constantly strengthen them. If you have a good engineer feeding you energy then your diffusion shield is basically invulnerable for its duration and you can lead attacks while protecting everyone behind your shield from frontal fire including missiles.
Command ships and gunships are just different beasts. The gunships can deal out damage fast and help take out you team’s “pests” like interceptors and engineers. Command ships are support ships in a lot of ways. Four modules to give you a lot of assists as long as you stick close to the group getting kills. They’re two very different fighters.

Oh yes ! but they are slowwwww and you can’t run… depletes your energy…which you need for your shields. It is like a frig… not one to go off on your lonesome chasing aftersome one right too far from the rest of the friendlies.
Got me a boat load of Jericho command ships in my FED hanger. Interestingly the Jericho commandship line branches off into the gunship line as too.
