[NB]Friendly fire from mines?

I recently started taking a look at LRFs, and while it is high risk business as every cov-ops on the field will plasma-web self-destruct straight into me, now even my own mines are turning against me:

Usually I can sit right inside of my mine-field and I’ll take damage from their ram and explosion, but not from my own mines.

Don’t know how to reproduce, but happens here and now. Only when being attacked by hostiles though, seems like the mines switch sides then.

This is no bug.  All things of explosive nature in the game does self damage if you are too close.

sorry but I had to do this

your avatar made me do it!

I could live with that but most of the time in the same situation (cov ops head-butting me) I don’t have my own mines on my killmail so one way or the other something’s wrong.

Also friendly missiles don’t scratch you even if they hit you (you can damage yourself though with the LRF torpedos but not your team).

In the words of this game:

SELF FIRE = on

FRIENDLY FIRE = off

Meaning you can damage yourself if you are within the explosion radius, but not your teammates.

^That is the general settings, only with custom settings can it be changed.

What Funky said.

Wise words:

Don’t sit in your own minefield and think you’re invincible. That interceptor exploding in a ball of fire causes damage to you both from your own mines exploding and from the interceptor itself exploding in your face. You’re quite likely to die as well.

Yep, everything explosive that you produce will hurt you, include explosion from Coil Mortar.

recently I was charging up a (whatever that missile weapon that you have to hold steady and charge to fire, it then explodes on the target causing AOE damage) and some Engineer placed a shield right in front of me… ya that killed me dead when I fired it

And that is a damned way to die xD

Edit: I once had an inty fly through it while firing at a frigate…he died xD

Fair enough, thx for the replies, guess I’m usually just lucky. This can be closed/deleted then.

I hate to admit it but that could possibly have been me… or I have been that inty flying in the wrong place wrong time and took the blast for a frigate

I was all like WTF how did they get that on me?! my squad mate was laughing telling me he thought the blast was intended for him

you guys do realize that in the description of the mine field it specifically states only damages enemy units right? so in otherwords this is a bug.

*edit expanded.

Because if it damages you as well then this essentially makes this useless for frigates who are typically too slow to get out of the explosion radius of their own field in time, thus making it a suicide only item.

Sure, it’s why I was originally sure this was a bug with the functionality. After being told here that was by design though I had submitted an amended description for one version of both the mine field and the proximity mine via the in-game dev assistance tool (think I also did it for the Jericho LRF torpedo description which is also wrong - like so many descriptions in game). We’ll see if it helps.

Allied ships won’t set off the mine, but if they’re close to a detonating mine it can cause damage to the allies.

TL;DR If you’re close to the boom, you get hurt.

Wrong!

You and allied ships don’t set off mines.

If you are close to a detonating mine/missile of yours you will get damaged

If allies are close to a detonating mine/missile of yours they won’t get damaged.

Yeah, my suggested changed description was along those lines (only shorter), no worries.
