Hi guys I’ll take a break from SC for awhile - there are other games to be played and tried. I’m really hoping that this game will succeed in the future since it’s the only game offering space-combat MMO play on such a level of quality. So GL devs! Also I would like to leave my impressions I’ve got as an average player while playing it so far - maybe they could be of help to you.
Let’s start with the good things. This game is awesome in some of it’s aspects. Ships designs - models and textures as well as overall design of the world (maps) is breath-taking. The game modes are extremely fun and generally pvp action (some things need balancing but that’s not unexpected) is very fun. Large number of various weapons and equipment for your ships only adds to the player experience. Also I like the simplicity behind the designs - instance 16 vs 16 battles seem a great thing to me. To anyone wanting to try some quick and fun space action I warmly suggest trying this game.
However this is about all you can expect from it. I will try to cover lacking that are not obvious like skill tree. Shops prices are not well balanced and need a rework. Ship design limitations vs research tree needs rethinking since now t1 ship of that types are useless after first 7 days of gameplay - when you research a thing like i.e. hull modification some basic (light) modification should be available even for your t1 ships, this would much improve the experience. Next the main concept of the game need to be decided on - will it be a mercenary game or a faction based game (it is a big thing) and the overall game experience should be shaped accordingly (ranking, reputation, ships restriction etc…). Right now we have a disconnection between game play and game experience.
The most concerning thing for me seems to be a lack of general direction in which the game development is moving. The latest patch brought these concerns to surface. I have nothing against pve but honestly it seems like a wasteful dissipation of energy and effort by the devs. Anyone wanting to play pve there are dozen of other game (SP mainly) which offer a limited MP experience in form of group of players against waves of AI enemy. This game should focus on pvp and bring pve only when all the main (core) elements have been properly implemented - it’s way too early now imo. Also (real) cash shop - I understand that every game need to be funded but the problem is that this is a game in open beta and many basic elements (like a proper skill tree) haven’t been fully or properly implemented yet we have a fully implemented cash shop. We have this trend in many games nowadays when devs want to get the cash but don’t want to take the full responsibility for the product they are delivering hiding behind BETA label. I say it’s a bad indicator and I hope my bad feeling about it won’t come true and that this game will be fully completed soon.
