What are the most fun and interesting ship types and guns/rockets/abilities/modules, in your opinion? I’m interested in trying the Frigates but I don’t want to waste credits/time on something that is boring to play
There is no such thing. Frigates can get extremely interesting to play when in the middle of a brawl, as you may get attacked by 4 or 5 people at once. I know it happens to me.

Frigates are all but fun. I suggest Interceptors 
Sai is the most fun ship for me, followed by Ricasso and Kris AE (all t3)

The best ship is the one that fits your taste. If you like to play support, you’ll feel great with an Engineer, even in a Command. If you are a frontline fighter, Tacklers and Gunships are for you. You like surprise attacks, Hit&Run tactics? Interceptors for ya. Wanna take it slow and safe? Guard. Like to camp and snipe the hell out of people? Go LRF.
Fed gunships can also hit and run quite well

Looking at one of the wikis, this game has so many cool things to try out. Interceptor Warp jumps, frigate warp gates, long range sniping, tactical nukes.

Pfft, that’s nothing a Recon can’t do, and you just need default keyboard, default mouse and default monitor.

Since the massive squad nerfing and MM bust up, it’s the only thing left for me to care about: kill, kill, murder, torture, kill and kill some more…
You can try the boring role of a Jericho LRF pilot launching torpedos at poor ole souls who happen to congregate at certain becons or areas within your reach.
For excitement you can read occasional hateful public or even private nasty profanty laid messages calling you everything under the sun.
Certain people seem to detest getting blown up by a torpedo for some reason more then any other weapons of choice.

I got 46 assists once. I thank my team and Kipps for being a good captain. I was in a command, and I don’t remember how many damage assists and buff assists I got, but I know it was 6 kills for myself, and I do not consider myself a kill focused pilot. MM sucked for that game.
Anyway, fun’s relative. Take a Crus S and laugh at interceptors trying to kill you. Take a Kite and get in, do damage, gtfo. Get a gunship for the DPS king. Want to kill captains, try recon, they’re the ones who do it the most.
