Module Question: Plasma Arc Range

MMDRuV9.jpg

whats the range on this baby?

the animation itself is the hitbox, maybe 50 meter longer.

imagine that your ship is a sword, just thrust yourself into people head on for maximum effect.

:012j:

Also note the damage is AoE and DoT and ‘ticks’. If you ‘slice’ an enemy too fast, you can ‘miss’ the damage tick. At the same time, if you pull it out at a beacon /w good placement, you can have multiple ships fly ‘through it’ and not come out the other side :slight_smile:

Its between 250-300m range… I use it in pve on the missile turrets and am always 250 to 300m away and it ticks just fine.

They have updated the in-game description to include a better explanation. The range on plasma arc is 120m in front of the ship.

I still hit stuff marked at 250-300m though. :slight_smile:

I also (appear) to hit things at the 250-300m range. At 120m I usually crash :slight_smile:

Problem with 120m, is if your that close or closer to a frigate as an interceptor when it blows up from death… you end up taking a hefty amount of damage from the explosion itself. Ive killed interceptors that arc’d me to death on my frigate with the explosion they caused by killing me. Kinda fun revenge.

I actually kind of love this. B/f camera change I’d get Battering Ram /w my frigate or the Revenge medal from interceptors running into me /w plasma arc and then dying in the ensuing collision/explosion.

Goodness. To all interceptor pilots reading this, I recommend the Collision Compensator.

I’ve never had much of a problem with the range. For the amount of damage it can do, I think the short range is a good balance. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction too when I manage to use plasma arc properly.

The most effective counter – well, the one that kills me most often – is mine fields. ;]

Yeah…for some reason I took mine off and I have it back on now =P. Collision compensator is worth it and in upper tiers you can get an implant that allows shields to help against collision, too.

So the range really is about 250-300? I was baffled with the game telling me it’s just 150 and ever since i’ve been doing it up close, but I was sure it was dealing damage at about 250~ before. Will test it out more, so it seems description is telling us wrong.

I’m not sure about that 250-300m range. CensoredbyAdmin mentioned using it on the turrets in PvE, but I have always found, at least recently, that I only do damage at around 120m. I use plasma arc exclusively to kill frigates in PvP and have not tried it in PvE.

I was just using that as an example, I still cloak and slip in behind snipers in pvp and my “go to” range behind them is 300m, I stop and use plasma arc there and I still do the damage. If you find me in game, send me a tell, we can hit practice mode and test it.

Will do. Let’s get these shenanigans cleared up.

CensoredbyAdmin and I have completed our tests. Here are the results:

Ships used:

→ Rank 9 Jericho Guard, Crus Type S

→ Rank 8 Jericho Covert Ops, Ricasso

Custom lobby, Practice Mode.

Tests were done at ranges 100, 150, 200, 300, 350, and 400m. These numbers represent the distance between the centres of two ships. Plasma arc mk. II was used at an angle perpendicular to the horizontal plane of the Guard frigate.

Full damage was dealt at all ranges between 100-300m. No changes in damage values.

At 350m, no damage was dealt. The cut off point appears to be 300m for the range of the plasma arc.

Lastly, I concur that the description of the plasma arc does not represent actual in-game values. This may be a typo or a bug, if the range is actually supposed to be 120m.

Agreed, I was the other person of the test, and through voice during the testing, all values are agreed upon.

Damage values with the resists i had on my shields were roughly as follows

50 Resis reduce incomming by 33,33%
100 Resis -------------------------> 50%
150 Resis -------------------------> 60%
200 Resis -------------------------> 66%
250 Resis -------------------------> 71,4%

with 185 thermal resist.

2431 1st tick

2322 2nd tick

2184 3rd tick

There were no resistance changes during this time, but the damage did deminish.

And because it was too comical not to post:
