Miscellaneous Suggestions

If it doesn’t fit anywhere else, put it here.

Bounty system:

When players get excessive kill-streaks or maybe are just alive too long, there should be an incrementally large sum of cash put on that player’s head. I would accept Galactic Standards, but credits(in a much larger amount) will do if you’re too cheap. And make sure to warn players if they have a bounty on theirs heads, or receive a player’s bounty. Only the killer should get the bounty, not the assistants.

I would accept Galactic Standards,

So would I.

  1. Have my alt kill me over and over

  2. Kill alt

  3. Profit

So your plan was to suggest something you will be able to exploit?

Points for originality, but damn exploitable!

GENIUS!

Not at all. Actually, I hadn’t thought about exploitability until I saw that. I just thought it would be nice to give players incentive to kill killers.

One must remember to keep a sense of humor when speaking to me.

I like this idea. May I expand upon it?

  1. If a player kills an excessive number of high-profile “good” units (such as Federation Military Police) they start to accumulate a Credit bounty on their head for every unit killed.

  1. If a player kills another player, the one who died is given an option next to the ‘respawn’ button that says “place bounty”. The dead player can select either Credits or GS (if they have any in their funds, that is) and the amount is subtracted from their funds.

  1. By making the players pay for a bounty out of their own pocket, it becomes unprofitable to farm your own bounties on an Alt.

  1. There needs to be a HUD option added as well that shows a little Credit or GS symbol next to a players name to indicate they have a bounty on their head.

  1. Introduce another CPU mod similar to the ‘Spatial Scanner’ called the ‘Bounty Hunter Scanner’ which allows you to scan enemy ships so you can see their bounty level, karma level, and their ship’s loadout.

This would function more like a side-option, because nobody ever will be willing to give up their money just to see one person killed. There needs to be an automated system that distributes bounty, not a player-based one. Either that, or let bots place bounty on people. XD

Funny, but there were plenty of players in Discovery Freelancer’s multi that were willing to put millions of credits on a single player because they killed them a single time. Never underestimate the power of gamer rage. “Nobody” is a rather large claim when something like this hasn’t been attempted yet.

Here’s the issue. If the money for bounties just accumulates automatically out of the nether, players will exploit it with Alts. Especially if GS in involved (recall the GS for leaderboard fiasco?). Players HAVE to give up the money from their own banks to avoid exploitation. Which is why they should be able to select how much above a minimum figure they want to put on the other player’s head.

Also, by giving up funds for a bounty, players will be discouraged from frivolously applying bounties to everything that moves just because they can. It makes them personally invested and will keep bounties limited to players that actually deserve to have one on their head. Provided, of course, that the minimum bounty requirement isn’t 10 Credits/1 GS.

(P.S. You might want to change your Thread Title to something more accurately descriptive of this topic.)

Makes sense. I see that you all are very worried about exploitation and justly so. Maybe it should just be tested to see what the in-game reaction is and how people use it. I would love to see bounty anyways, no matter how one comes to posess it.

Instead of a voluntary system, you could implement one where upon a player kill, the killer automatically takes money from the player and a portion goes to bounty. You could also mix the two and allow for the player to add to the bounty after being killed.

Of course, variable bounties would pretty much require a variable symbol telling you how much the bounty is.

My concern here is GS trading. Consider the following:

Three players enter a PvP sector.

Player A kills Player B.

Player B puts a GS bounty on Player A.

Player C immediately kills Player A.

I’d be more concerned about farming over trading. But as long as the GS comes out of the player’s pocket, I don’t see the problem. Farming becomes impossible, and trading is simply a minor annoyance.

The thing is, Player A gets sent back to his station. In order to be killed he needs to disable station protection or fly to an unprotected sector. There is a very large chance someone else will kill him before he rendezvous with Player C and claim the GS.

But as long as the GS comes out of the player’s pocket, I don’t see the problem.

  1. GS seller buys GS with stolen credit card info,

  2. GS seller transfers GS to GS buyer

  3. credit card transaction gets canceled

  4. GS gets taken out of GS buyer’s account or his account locked until he buys enough GS to reimburse.

  5. GS buyer won’t get money back from GS seller

  6. GS buyer ragequits the game

Problem?

Sometimes you have to protect people from themselves.

Or even the 10 free GS you get for voting, if you register a hundred accounts thats 1000, accounts are free, so… Also the starting 200. Also whatever. Trading is bad in this type of games.

Yeah, you could use false accounts to farm GS from polls, or stolen card info as Snib said.

Or you could see a situation where people buy GS for credits. They die to the middle man, put in a huge bounty, “seller” kills the middle man. Both leave and keep both GS and credits.

This bounty concept can and will be abused.

Also, you say they have to go “all the way” to a PvP sector. Empire has R7 PvP zones two jumps from base. It’s not hard to check the portal is clear before making a kill pact.

  1. Alice buys GS with a stolen credit card

  2. Alice sells GS to Bob

  3. Alice’s stolen credit card transaction gets canceled

  4. Bob gets penalized

  5. Bob can’t get Alice to give him a refund

  6. Bob ragequits

I feel like something is wrong with step (4) there. Why penalize Bob when Alice is the one who stole things? Why not simply put the bar on Alice instead? Or, if she continues to do this sort of thing, simply permaban her? Bob’s not done anything wrong. If there aren’t strong penalties for canceled GS transactions like that, the fault lies with the devs. They probably have enough information to go after her for the money. And if not, at least enough information to permaban her and any accounts using her email, steam, or IP.

You could also go about discouraging stuff like that with a fee on GS bounties. Say, 10% * (number of GS bounties made in the last month) with a cap at something like 50 or 75%.

Because Alice is not a real player. Her account will get banned but she has already created 100 new ones for the same purpose.

And Bob gets penalized because #1 he benefited from the fraud and #2 he violated the EULA by trying to buy GS from third parties rather than from Gaijin. He’ll be lucky not to get his account banned in addition.

Look, I didn’t make this scenario up, it’s how it happens in practically all MMO’s that allow trading.

Well, good point. Any countermeasures to fake accounts buying things with stolen information would just make the game worse for everyone. So I suppose GS bounties would be out, then.

Support 100%! I would be placing tons of bounty on people lol :3 Mainly because people seem to attack me a lot, I even have 9200 positive karma!
