Mining In Star Conflict

Asteroid mining in Eve Online is a point and click affair. Activate modules. Deactivate modules, Check cargo. Boring.

Star Conflict is a combat game that actually requires piloting skill.

There’s talk about making an open world universe for Star Conflict with the possibility of trade and mining.

Here is a suggestion to make asteroid mining skill based

1. First, Watch this video

  • notice the asteroids are moving and revolving

2. Drill Point on asteroids

Neswgg5.jpg

  • you can only mine a certain face on an asteroid

  • to find the face, you have to have the asteroid ‘locked on’

  • mining drill module must have line of sight on that face to collect

  • if you lose line of sight, module deactivates

  • cooldown timer starts AFTER module deactivates

  • so the longer you can maintain line of sight the more efficient the mining Op

3. Difficulty Level

  • You can vary the difficulty by increasing various factors

  • Rotation speed of Asteroid

  • Rotation complexity of Asteroid

  • Size of Drillable Face (red in picture above)

  • Collision damage

  • Frequency of ‘Collider’ asteroids <— they bounce around the map hitting other asteroids and poor miners

— For sake of technical performance, mining asteroids do not move other than rotate on their x,y,z coord —

4. Mining Sequence

a. scan for mining asteroids - not all can be harvested

b. lock on to find drill face - red in picture above

c. orbit asteroid and activate drill module

Skill needed to mine should be about the same as needed to evade a homing missile and have it slam into an obstacle instead of your ship.

probably never gonna happen but thought i’d throw this one out here anyway.

Really nice.

+1 on the thorough write-up, but you lost me at the word mining, tbh.

After 5 years of Eve, it’s become a dirty word.

after 4 years of mining in bsgo im still not tired of it. Mining is a nice break from the fighting.

i like the sound of that man as always keep up the good work

To be honest, I wouldn’t mind even the drudge-like mining that Eve has. I’ll take *anything* that’s not yet another “shoot all the things and then shoot some more” battle mode.

Heck, with mining you could also have a mechanic for Discovering valuable asteroids and informing your team about the good finds. More use for recon interceptors? And teamwork? (Roid seekers and roid miners and miner protectors… Teamwork!) Heck, there’s a game mode right there - can even use the same maps! Each team has all people put into 3 roles - locators, prospectors, guards. Locators fly aroudn asteroids, scan them, valuable findings told to the team via ‘all eyes on…’ bing. Prospectors then fly up, mine it. Guards protect the miners from other team’s ships. All ships keep their battle gear, so they can switch roles from whatever they are into harassers of the other team’s miners. Drop collected ore onto a resource beacon near spawn, highest collected ore amount wins the match. What’s not to like?

+1

We already have those asteroids that rotate and can be pushed around, they also look conspicuous enough to be spotted easily and the game has lasers, this could introduce a neat way of farming resources to build modules on an assembly line. (think Warframe blueprints)

We are battling for sectors in space, usually the reason is resources, so there could be different elements in different sectors.

Within the vicinity of home sectors:

Jericho generally possess and have access to the elements relative to shields.

Empire, hull technology.

Fed, propulsion.

The closer to the middle you get, the more the elements could be relative to weapons and such.

(each sector is instanced)

When a sector isn’t being disputed, it could become a mining/hangout/local pvp duelling zone. The bonus of owning the sector is the PVE security while you mine/hang out/hone skills.

So you can still go to an unfriendly sector and mine the parts you need, but you are in danger.

I think this would go hand in hand quite well with the Corporation Bounty Board idea in another topic.

However, this was posted by Error on the recent topic “Open Exploration world”.

We will have more improvements for the sector conquest, but we will have no real open world like in eve."

Would somebody be able to clarify with me what is known? Because I’m getting very mixed messages; I’m under the impression that there will be free-roaming but it will be instanced like it is now?

Really good idea though this is, because of the gameplay mechanics, mining asteroids and navigating dense asteroid fields could easily be considered as non-pvp flight training for players.

open space bump

what a bump

you will have to wait more for open space tho

soon™

We don’t have “mining” ships… But I like this idea, mainly due to the use of piloting skills and the large moving space objects that lack in the game. From information we can get on the wearhouse, I don’t think the mining stuff is on the devs mind :’(

Even in deathmatch, it would be harder to camp around corner if the asteroid you’re hidding behind is moving

Great, I will have to find the SC equivalent of a ganking Catalyst.  :006j:

Great idea. Nice change of pace.

You might have a market place to sell and get credits. Really valuable resource could get loyalty credits or arties or maybe even GS if they are super rare.

I love this!

new low for our beloved space shooter like it was in 0.7 and 0.8 - Space farming / Asteroid mining :S

How much more can they get away from the basics that made the game good 1 year ago ?

But for the creativity and work put out in the post - nice job. Since we are going that way, better to do it right !

Potato your ship and weapon and make them cry about you having full orange (mk5) ship.

Good idea, support.
