Max Energy Regen: How does it work?

My Max energy regen is 143. My afternburner consumes 113 energy per second. My buff module consumes another 20 energy per second.

=10 free energy regen.

 

So theoretically I should constantly have an EXCESS of 10 energy regen per second right?

 

NOPE. WTF?! Why is my energy going DOWN when I’m afterburning…even WITHOUT my buff active?

 

So. I asked in chat what the “max” energy regen meant. And what the conditions are that contribute to this “max” changing. No one had a clear answer, which has prompted me to ask you guys. The forums. Why is my energy going down when I’m afterburning?

I think I figured it out. The closer you get to 0 energy, the faster it regens. The afterburner drains my energy down to about the halfway point, then it stops draining energy. At least that’s what I recall happening. So if I really want to have a full energy bar or 80% full while afterburning, I need a much higher regen rate, so that at the 80% point it’s still matching my afterburner energy usage.
