Well I’ve seen many people complaining about the new matchmaking system lately so I thought I might join in the chorus because statuses were removed.
I think we all (minus devs and extremely biased/unskilled players) could agree that the new matchmaking systems is complete and total rubbish. Not only are you thrown in to extremely difficult battles due to rank jumps now, but you are also occasionally thrown in to battles that are basically pointless because of team balancing.
I suggest that the 3-rank restriction system be kept, but also that the rank “weight” that your player is given in MM is not based on your highest rank ship, but on the average ranks of your ships. This would mean that players who only have R8 and R9 ships could still use and level up their brand new R10 ship without being immediately thrown in to T5 matches that are extremely difficult and frustrating. Yes, or might argue that this could be abused to being high rank ships in to low rank battles, but that is the only problem that could arise, and is easily countered using simple team balancing. Team balancing also needs to be based not on “skill rating” or “pilot rating” but on actual statistics for the players. For every player with an exceptionally low K/D, there needs to be a player with very high K/D. This would make teams significantly more balanced and make the game much more tolerable in PvP.

Ships equipped has nothing to do with pilot sKILL. You need to balance based on kills per battle not by some arbitrary “skill” rating.
So far every skill rating failed and proved to be easily manipulative, if a guy equips 4 ships, he’s serious, with one ship equipped i doubt it and so forth…

Kills per battle won’t help much really, thats just as likely to come down to ship type, eg snipers outranging other ship types, or covert ops/ints in general being virtually unhittable by slower rotating ships.

I did say “K/D ratio” I think. It means “Kill/death ratio”.

It should also take in to account total number of ships, but more for the match than each individual team. So that each team must have +-2 ships of the total of the other.
I agree. The groups in MM need to be reworked. Ships of ranks 13-15 should have their own category. and having a single r10 ship should not put you in a fight against special project ships, no matter how strong artificial buff it gets. Possibly ships of ranks 8/9-12 should be MM by the average of the ranks as you suggested. And players under rank 9 should not encounter a destroyer in PvP, or at least in a number of only 1 per team.
Other than that, I think that MM based on skill is a hit or miss as there are to many variables to take into account. Either you win or you loose, it’s a game. And if you’re loosing too much then try to play a ship that will benefit your team and not just yourself. The current MM system will be developed further, for now we’re trying to make it more flexible and accurate. And at the same time make some old ships worth using. The main thing that you’re talking about, the choise of playing on certain difficulty and developing your higher ship, should be possible. You don’t know what to do? That’s your main flaw! You ruined and upset the balance of PvP. People don’t want to craft SP ships anymore, nor buy more expensive and higher-ranked ships.
You had a good system. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but it was more stable than before.
Instead of filling the gaps, like make necessary adjustments that players will use all ship slots, equipment and implants, etc, you resorted to rank bonuses, which is wrong and upsets the balance.
Why can you equip 4 ships of inappropriate ranks, so that you can’t use them or worse, others can’t even see them?
Rank 10-15 bonuses should not be present on any ship, because it’s hard difficulty! You should get no hand from any “boosts”.
Rank 6-9 bonuses should be reduced by 50%.
Rank should stay 1-5, as they are.
Is that so hard to do? I would still prefer 3 rank escalation system instead of 5.
If we were to go in a 3 tier system, best case scenario would be 6-5-4, meaning, 1-6 T1, 7-11 T2 and 12-15. It wouldnt be actually that bad at all but there MUST be a rank check so the ranks dont mix and the leader thingie needs to go even tho its not that bad.
