Locking

I just thought this should go here due to the general discussion being down and all.

 

So, I was playing with my engineer frigate, which was perfectly useful before and required minimal nerfing, when I died. No biggie, I can just respawn, right? I sure as hell did, and as soon as I got onto the damn map, I’m locked by 3 people.

 

Three. Not one, three.

 

What the hell is this?! I try to escape, and BOOM! Dead in 7 seconds of spawning. No kidding.

 

This is completely ridiculous. And it’s utterly unfair: people who play frigs and are up against a team pressing the advantage are just going to find themselves lock-spammed by virtually everyone on the map as soon as they spawn. Invincibility for 3 seconds doesn’t cut it (or at least, that’s what I think it is). There needs to be a radius around the spawn zone which prevents enemies from locking onto you and/or firing at you, provided you can’t do the same to them.

its called “They know you are the reason your team will survive unless they kill you first”. Stick closer to your team mates and wait for reinforcements. 

if you cant get out of the spawn area, then well you’re screwed so try a different ship

I know, I know. Being an engy player is difficult: you always get targeted. But it was as soon as I came out of slipspace (as I like to call it). Literally, not half a second after. I really think that should be tweaked a little.

its called “They know you are the reason your team will survive unless they kill you first”. Try keep close of allies guard ships and others frigates. Avoid open space and never rush alone. And even keep eyes on your radar.

It’s one way to break down healer squads. They’ve already made missile support 3 times more difficult by limiting some of them to diffirent ship roles. Protecting spawn will just make counters even harder / impossible. Plus engineers can warp out almost immediately upon respawn in any direction so that’s a nice enough buffer for you no?

I agree that spawn camping is rather frustrating. Since there is nothing implemented in the game to prevent this, aside from the invincibility period, I just go around telling people to leave their opponents alone until they’re a few hundred meters out. Granted, not a lot of people listen but hey, I’ll try to lead by example.

 

As for them locking you as an Engineer, I would be disappointed in those flying against you if that did not happen. ;]

I’m a healer most of the time. I use the Mass Shield and Nanodrone Cloud modules virtually every battle, so warp gates are kinda of a no for me.

I remember this one time, I was flying Recon interceptor in Tier 2. I had seven enemies locked on to me. Not one, but seven.

 

I guess it had to do something with me Micro-warping right at the start right to their faces (and close to their captain, it was Combat Recon).

 

 

Of course, their captain died.

 

 

(Yes, to a single Recon Inty. Not sure why he decided to “hide” in my minefield).

Maybe rest of their team should also have locked on to me too, not just only seven of them.

 

The point? It is quite obvious, that if you are playing important role (like, are the healer, or are attacking their captain / beacon), you will draw attention to yourself.

Actually he is sort of describing a real problem, just *extremely* poorly.

If the enemy starts camping your spawn, you can bet that any frigate you try to spawn, especially engineers, will get annihilated one by one in open space before it can get to cover or be joined by any friends to support it. Meanwhile the spawn campers can field what they like. Given what a massive force multiplier engineers are this can make a good spawn camp difficult to recover from.

 

A fix would be to make the post-warp invulnerability last a lot longer (thinking 30s), but break on movement, firing or module use. Then if you get camped you can spawn a blob, break invulnerability together and take back your spawn, rather than getting killed one by one.

 

But tbh, if you get spawn camped by enough of a force that you can’t dislodge them without engineers you were probably on a one way trip to loserville anyway. I’ve never seen a team camp my spawn effectively unless they were dominating anyway.
