So is there still progression on levels or did they just remove the “visual progression”

Ranks 1 to 15 how you unlock ships and implants

you rank up as you buy higher level ships. you buy those by ranking up your current ship’s synergy

 

so rank is now tied with your ship’s synergy

Reputation levels with the three main factions are gone - as Kine correctly stated, ship unlocks now occur by gaining synergy on your ships and working your way through the ship trees.

Implants will unlock according to the highest rank ship you own in each of the trees.
