Killed by wrong player in logs

Not sure if this is the right place or not… if not, apologies.

 

This happened twice to me in open space (Empire sector, if that matters).

 

First time I was fighting some pirates. I unexpectedly died, the combat log said I was killed by Cloudz. I said hey, Cloudz reported that he did not fire on me. Additionally the combat popup said I was killed by a positron cannon. Cloudz doesn’t have a positron cannon. Interestingly, the combat log does not reflect positron cannon. (Yes, I’m quite certain the log showed positron cannon.)

Second time, I was dead and waiting for a res. Some other players were fighting some bios in the zone, then I noticed the kill notification popup (screen top left) said killed by me, again by a positron cannon, which again was not equipped.

 

I’m not sure how to reproduce this except to play and pay attention to the kill notifications.

He probably died from his own missle’s explosion. and you last damaged him so you got the kill

i had full health, so he was for sure not attacking me but i saw him behind some rocks. haha that FlinT would do that.

Then maybe I hit him with my coil mortars if he was around the group of pirates my team was getting rid of, but the odd part is that I jumped to Criminal without going aggressor. Even more weird is that I turned criminal when I was just about to enter the gate to the next zone so the battle was over by then anyway.

if a bot/pirate/alien kills anything you have shot at without any other player have shot at them after you. it will be shown as your kill. thats why.

But yes, player damage > NPC damage in invasion for some reason. Also can get you criminally flagged if you damaged a friendly NPC at one point and it later dies to other NPCs. Strange design decision…

It could be due to the fact they removed the “Assist Timer” and it’s impacting this game mode more than predicted.

No it looks like an intentional change they made. In “normal” game modes the NPCs do get fully attributed killshots. It’s only in invasion space that NPC killshots don’t count if a player participated.

Kinda like the invasion NPCs don’t see through cloak unlike the normal ones. They decided to make them different.
