Is it boring now?

To everyones own.

I tend to fly backup roles: Engineer, Guard, LRF because frigates are overpowered and I love it! I get a great feeling of teamwork and accomplishment when I can protect/heal my team.

Plus since I hull-tank my Empire LRF, I can actually move up to support my team from close range.

Ever have that moment where you are chugging toward an objective on your Engineer and suddenly 5 or 6 friendly interceptors streak past you on all sides, and you can’t help but think, “That totally looked badass. I bet the enemy team is shaking right now.”?

if you are in front of your interceptors on an engineer

a) you are doing it wrong

b) all of your friendly inties got wiped out due to lack of your heals.

c) I had a warpgate at the time.

d) I had respawned sooner than my interceptor teammates because Engineers get targeted/destroyed first.

So in a manner of speaking, yes, they died from a lack of heals since they failed to keep me alive.

I had the same issue Finemw. And I learned that the hard way, because im a primary interceptor pilot. But now I can actually go into my secondary ships and be really good at them. If you only specialise in one thing and then a “capture the beacons” or realistic mode will be the most unfun thing in the world. Whereas me, I can take any ship and survive long enough in a vessel Im not really good at but know decently enough to be help my team win.

Also, its just good practice to be a well rounded in your ships and there associated skills.

I almost only flew interceptors until a couple weeks after the 0.9.0 patch.  Then I grinded guards, got good at it.  My win loss ratio started going up by flying a guard.  I didn’t want to do Empire LRF, but I did until the Hydra 2 was linked to a Styx.  I got Empire LRF up to an Acid Hydra.  I learned that most empire LRF pilots just suck horribly.  I was doing more in a ship I didn’t even like they they were and they probably liked it.  In the time I’ve been grinding other ships, interceptors have been nerfed hard.  Now I know every ship class in the game.

Now all you have to learn is choose a proper ship for the situation, instead of “flying a guard for 3 days and maybe your W/L ratio will go up”.

I would fly other ships as well, but I focused on the guard.  Right now I have two frigates and two interceptors in my lineup.  Regarding the w/l ratio, maybe I’m better at guards than interceptors, or maybe I was just helping to counter interceptor spam.

Depending on the game type and tier, this may be very, very likely the truth.

Your ratio is going up, because you switched from useless interceptor spam and helped clean out the beacons in domination and hunt games from other interceptors. Now if you would just switch first round to interceptor in realistic, and equip an engineer when there is no other engineers on the field (in all my games, 50% of the time noone brings engineer, so I pick it, hence my ratio stays above 2.0), it will go up even faster.

The lack of engineers makes me mad. I like being able to heal damnit

Yesterday, the MM system did wonders to match a dude with 1100 SR vs me.

It was realistic mode “Capture the beacons”

I killed him 3 times and then a BOT killed his final ship…I kinda feel sorry for him.

Solo Qing is fun…only if you win.

JP, what tier?

JP, what tier?

T4/5

I had my CrappyCO™ rank 13 and 3 rank 10s in my lineup. I just switched to a guard after I went bonkers on the poor guy to finished the match as quick as possible.

Oh and he 1 v 1 guard vs guard…he got my sheilds down, and blasted him with an EM torpedo and healed at the same time. I even survived an octopus…mmm…I should have saved the logs or recorded it.

Last time I had that feeling was in 0.7.x.

And nowadays, it’s more of a "you’re chugging toward an objective on your empire gunship and suddenly a couple of fed guards streak past you on all sides and you can’t help but think “why am I not playing them, they’re faster, more durable and do helluva lot more AoE damage?”

My T3/4 gaurd both do 300 to 350 M/S with afterburner.

Instead of playing a ship I was also trying to learn the roles, etc.  I’ve got an elite Anaconda and I’m grinding Styx at the moment, purple heals for the team, but no purple armor yet.  I’m somewhat testing Jericho LRF gunship, but having the right matches is hard.

Also, for your win ratio, how much is from T4+ with smaller teams?  I swear, every so often MM gives me a match that says “ok, time for you to lose.”

You know you want a guard.

I’m having that kind of matches very often. usually I have 3 or 4 decent matches with competent teammates, then 2 disastrous defeats with people that don’t use heals, don’t capture beacons, abandon our captain, or something like that. I’m keeping my W/L ratio over 1.10, but I’m sure it’ll fall sooner or later.

I have a guard. Many of them actually. Comes with having to play in 0.8.x.

I just struggle not falling asleep playing them outside PvE. The basic tactic of “sit back, wait for enemy to engage while pummeling them with your guns, then go in, pop torpedo, pop pulsar, pop slow field and collect kills” could be botted.

What do you want to do with your guard Luckyo? (Flanking Guard, FrontLine Guard, Diving Guard, Hunting Guard?ect)

The last time I got into T4 soloqueue, I got into a Beacon Hunt match, against a guy using all T4s. I beat him with a Swarm, I’d say, purely out of luck. The guy could take me in a proper dogfight. And he was using a g.d. Eagle.
