Just played a beacon capture game. Was first to the beacon and there were no mines around, had adaptive camo on. Then an enemy interceptor comes on the other side of the beacon, deploys a mine and I get instantly killed even though my ship was on the other side of the beacon! First, the mine should not have activated because there was no direct line of sight to my ship for the proximity fuse to activate and second the beacon should have provided protection since it is solid but it didn’t. It looks like mine explosions go through map objects!
Explosions do got through beacons, just like singularity cannon shots.
Or plasma arc. Gotta love those recons hugging the beacon and you fry them from the other side.
All working as intended.
Minelayer can go through thin wall if launched next to it, btw.

explosions goes thro walls baby.
also one reason why should missile shield take down a bomb (nuke) but not a proxy mine wich actually deals more damage than a nuke.
why did nuke damage get like halfed. the thing is kinda worthless now. deals a tiny bit amount of damage compared to earlier with 20-22k damage. now its like 8-11k? the thing takes forever to explode, you can only have one and then need to wait 2 minutes for re-charge. should be more damage since its detonation time.
Explosions should not go through solid objects. If other game developers can do it, there is no reason why this team can’t.
Of course, that’s be like hearing someone while standing behind a tree. That’s nonsense!

I believe Kit was saying that you shouldn’t be hit by an explosion that doesn’t have a line of effect to you.

Beacons aren’t entirely solid per se. Singularities pass through beacons.
I tried to find a gif of the effects of a blast wave around an object. I gave up and clicked post.
Well you know, space doesn’t exactly have air for the blast wave to travel through.

I apologize for playing too much D&D. Obstacles provide cover against blasts and bursts.
And I believe you were looking for something similar to this:
Is just a gameplay feature. Beacons have collision box for ships, and they stop LoS, but don’t stop explosions and other effects. This is to avoid beacon cover exploit.
Singularities pass through beacons.
I think some ‘exceptions’ could be made in select cases but not with explosions. Singularities might pass through beacons but I’ve seen them get stopped by other objects like the cannons and rocket launchers in PvE so they can’t pass through everything. Could be missing features? The developing team should clarify what the intentions were.

Singularity passes through the turrets/launchers in PVE, if you’re doing it right you’re taking out several of them at once with it. It does get stopped by indestructible structures though. As stated, beacons are the intentional exception so you cannot hug a beacon for safety.

If the intention was to prevent beacon “hugging” then all ordinance should go through, agreed? This includes all ammo types, disintegrator volleys, pulsar, missiles, etc The way it is now is inconsistent. A missile cannot go through but the explosion from it does? How does that make sense?
How does that make sense?
Balance.

Sure. All “working as intended”. I call it short-cuts or excuses. No time/budget to implement correct physics/behavior. Same with:
Minelayer can go through thin wall if launched next to it, btw.
Nothing to do with balance! Everything to do with priorities and what is more important to do/fix and when!

This is an arcade game, not a physics simulator. We like it that way, thank you very much.
