Interceptor dogfighting

Hello!

I am not blessed with very fast reflexes, and i constantly loose nearly every battle with an interceptor if such a ship comes too close to me. It then starts cycling me like crazy and i often am totally confused and cant hit it. This happens also while i am flying an interceptor myself. Using a tackler that is supposed to counter those inties is no help either. Either i kill it before it closes in to mee, or i am doomed.

If i try to use the same tactic, it never works since i am completely unable to simultaniously control such a fast ship and target such a small target as an interceptor at the same time.

I have tried several combinations, like flying with and without afterburner, strafing of not, but nothing seems to work very well.

So i would like to know if you know some basic dogfighting tactic that allows a mediocre player to at least win some dogfights that does not rely too much on hand eye coordination and lightning reflexes?

Most fighter pilots maximize Rotation speed with the Implant and Vernier Thrusters for this reason, so interceptors cannot get behind them.

I myself don’t like the ‘turret fighter’ approach, but that’s just personal taste. I do not have lightning reflexes, nor do I have a good enough internet connection to fly interceptors like a ‘pro’.

The only advice I can give is to use “noskill” auto-aiming mechanics to your advantage. Laser Weapons, Tackler Drones, Crafted Attack Drones, Engineer Drones, Minelayers, A1MA, Pulsar, Plasma Web, basically anything that can keep them off of you. If nothing else, stay with a wingman at all times, so they can shoot a circling interceptor off your tail.

Practice. There isn’t a single “trick” for interceptor dogfighting. Some people circle using fast rotation. Some others in non adaptive interceptors favor strafe and backwards speed. Some even use plasma gun while running away from you and using free view to hit you backwards.

The only advice I can give you against interceptors is to never fly 1v1 against them if they are good. Stay with the team, and in tacklers, use the small drone while you are fighting him. Usually in combination with either target painter or inhibitor beam. Current small drones are really powerful against interceptors. If your tackler is maneuverable enough, you can avoid being killed and let the drone do the job.

Also, if you have good aim, frigates with positrons or lasers are great for killing ceptors before they get close.

Use RF Blasters first. If you can dogfight with it, pulse lasers will be easy.

Go to “Key Binds” and set the alternative movements to your keyboard.

For me it’s: Turn left: Y, Turn right: X, Turn up: C, Turn down: V

Play more interceptors, try to move back to the healer when you feel you not gonna make it alive, use the Armadillo implant so if an ECM stuns you, use up a multipurpose module.

If you can’t handle the speed, use empire interceptors first to get in.

Use vernier engines and adaptive shields if it’s possible.

Build energy-stable interceptors, so your energy regeneration should be higher than your afterburner consuption.

Even if you don’t have quick reflexes, you can get on a high level if you practice enough and you have persistence.

I guess you don’t have a qwerty keyboard

I have a QWERTZ, the hungarian layout sucks sometimes :stuck_out_tongue:

Has to be better than Belgian AZERTY, who went #yolo on QWERTY and decided to replace ONE key.

Also French. My laptop has azerty keyboard. What also sucks is that for a fullstop you have press “shift + ;” which makes absolutely no sense… You also have to use shift for the line of number keys at the top of the keyboard. But at least all the accents are easily accessible.

Still better than murican keyboards, seeing as English has NO accents, haha

I find that going in reverse at full speed with afterburners helps.  It’s really really difficult to kill an inty in 1v1, and especially if they’re good…sometime’s it’s impossible.

The best thing you can do is lead them into your team so that they get focused and back off or die.  Most of the time, I’ll lure an interceptor to a guard or an LRF (mines.)

When I first started playing I was being chased by an inty in an inty. Slowing down to get behind him was funny. I did it like 6 times. I bet he was frustrated.
