Since the most recent update (1.1.7) I have had an extremely hard time finding graphite in open space. I have spent two ten-minute sessions in Terramorphing Station harvesting valuable minerals in the sector and have found nothing but junk and money. Before the update, about 50% of the minerals were impure graphite.
I hope this can’t just be ruled down to bad luck, because I’ve had about enough of it.

Salvage your Mark 2 items to get what you need. I suggest at least T IV items.
Of couse you need to know, what to salvage first to get a desired resource.
Dang aging tier 5 (V) items and modules is a great way to rack up graphite and other resources. I’d say the only real downside is that it costs a lot of credits. Once you find a salvage that gives graphite, keep buying that one, but salvage it immediately, as the salvage rewards change periodically.
I have 990 graphite Plates from salvaging all the T5 mkII and mkIV kits I picked up in PvP and PvE. You do need a bit of a head in credits to collect all the mk4 kits you find but they are worth it - you get the iridium you would have gotten anyway as well as the materials which include up to 6 graphite plates depending on the module.

You actually get the materials from salvaging when you do it for free, you just can’t see what they are. At least, that’s how it was a few months ago, I’m not sure if the devs decided to change that.

Yes, right. I left out the ‘maxed’ part. But I still think neo loot drops only when maxed rank 8 ships are used.
