i’d add: more contracts which can be done without playing the faction-ships. for example, legion has good contracts, i can do everyone right now with a fed-frig (i use lasers all the time) while one of the jericho-factions has at least 2 contracts i can’t do without a specific jericho-ship (frig for guided torp and… i dunno what it is, i think it was the plasma-web or something). so, more contracts like “kill x fighters/intis/frigates”, “kill a bombcarrier”, “make x assists”, “deal x damage with rockets/mines” would be really great
The problem I had with the contract system (when I played) was that I had to go OUT OF MY WAY to complete them. I usually play the game in my own way and enjoyed doing so and being rewarded for it. By limiting loyalty progression to contracts only, I found myself doing wonky things that I usually wouldn’t do, piloting ships that I don’t normally pilot, and all manner of “going out on a limb” for contract completion - and of course, I did all of this with little regard for whether we actually won or not. I just wanted to complete my contract.
When contracts didn’t matter as much, I played to WIN Matches, with contracts as more of an afterthought. “GREAT, we won a match! Did I complete a contract, goodie, that’s a nice little bonus.”
Making loyalty gain completely hinged upon the contract system (and a pitiful amount of loyalty gain at that) PIGEON HOLES me into playing the game in ways that I don’t like - which is why I quit.
/end rant.
so it’s good that you quit imho. putting the contracts above the goal of the match is just stupid and i hate people who do this.
you guys do know. if there wasn’t a grind. you would get everything within a month or two right? which is why the devs put a limit on it.
Which is why most games release DLC content that expands the universe. Or they make additional end-game content, such as max reputation gold camoflage skins or unique stickers. Or heck, why not add another Tier every month or so? Make it go up to 11! (That’s one tier beyone WoT).
Or if you really want to surprise players, allow those with the credits to swap out different visual aspects of their ships! You want a slightly more streamlined Alligator-M with agressive wingtips? DONE! Want a Jericho fighter with dual wings like a futeristic bi-plane? DONE! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look at Hawken’s method of visual customization.
Personally don’t like the contract system because I have to wait so long to do some contracts and the ones that only take an hour to refresh give <400 loyalty. Thats nothing!
The contract grind is rough and players that have purchased the steam DLC packages and have a license have a huge advantage. Don’t forget that you can keep switching the contract faction. I usually do all the contracts I can for one faction then switch to the faction beneath and repeat. In my opinion, a big problem is that the player gets access to a bunch of items at each rank instead of fewer items in between ranks. I think the contract reward system could be improved by having tiers within the ranks where you get items instead of getting access to a large number of items once you reach the actual rank. If you were to get access to 10 blue items at rank 9 then you instead get 2 at rank 9.2, 2 more at rank 9.4, 2 more at rank 9.6, etc. It would make the grind a bit more bearable and allow players to be competitive as they level. I mean can you imagine hardcore raiding in any other mmo and just getting a bunch of loot after a month but nothing until then?
Contracts are going to be expanded in a way that introduces a logical story line.
I’m not doing terribly at the moment, I run through all 6 factions a week.
Got three at 6, two at 5 and Techs at 4 atm.
Slow but steady.
You know, for all that people claim the game would “die” if you got everything too quickly, I can’t help but notice that games like CoD or Battlefield have servers running for YEARS after release that are full of max-level players…
Let’s get something straight here; the “lack of content” argument is perfectly valid for a single player experience. Multiplayer, on the other hand, tends to work in the opposite way - you drip-feed stuff only as slowly as is required to ease people into the game. Most people I know want to have access to everything as quickly as possible so they can settle into a comfortable little niche and stay there.
Star Conflict doesn’t let you do that; they destroyed the tiers so you can’t stay at rank 3 / 6 / 9 and enjoy the perks of being top of your tier - the game will move you into games with the next tier instead.
I don’t want that. I want to be able to rock up into tier 1 with my Hercules Arrow and Dvergr Knight and fight other Tier 1 players who, ideally, are flying comparable ships. I’m currently loving my tier 2 Phobos Aura, but I’m well aware that if I ever get to rank 7 in a faction I will likely start being matched against tier 3 pilots and my awesome ship will be hopelessly outclassed (I switched to Federation just to stop this happening!).
The beauty of multiplayer is the content is brought in by the players. As long as there is good variation available, it doesn’t matter whether the players are getting new stuff or not. Team Fortress doesn’t need to add new weapons, modes and classes every fortnight to keep people interested, and nor does any other successful multiplayer game.
If the developers let people find their niche and enjoy it, they can focus on convincing people they’d enjoy that niche even more if they spend some real-world money to paint their ship turquoise blue with purple flames…
