Hey what do you put on to give ships a good tank? I’ve tried to come up with one but lacking experience I don’t know if it’s a good setup to survive, T2 seems to be too little slots to set up a tank but in the few T3 games I played hit and run hugging the team these setups seemed adequate to a newbie but how do I make them better without greens,blues or purps?
So on the Phobos that’s galvanised armour, shield projection splitter and voltage regulator for ship mods, reactive armour and collision compensator for passives, aiming and engine overcharge+nanocomposite coating for active.
Desert Eagle has galvanised armour, pulse discharger, adaptive shield, infrared scanner for ship mods, reactive armour, reinforced beams, collision compensator and horizon module for passives, same actives as Phobos but with combat reboot added.
I’m using Ion emitters because I suck with gauss cannon and assault railguns need close range for me to hit as I have to chase, whereas I can just float around turreting with ion emitters.
Thermal resists. And EM/Kinetic depending on which tank you have (shield or armour). If you’re flying a Command Ship, you’ll want tank all over that thing. If it’s a Tackler, you’ll want speed and a little boost to tank. If Gunship, turn it into a Glass Cannon.
You need T3 or higher to get a real option for customizing your ship.
Tanking is a choice between tanking damage, and sending out damage like a tank. I vary every so often depending on how effective certain changes are. My D-Eagle tanks on the hull, nothing for shields at the moment. I may change that only because of the visual cue of shields down. I can take more on the hull than the shields it’s Empire. I could change it to be paper thin.
The customization in T3 is having the ability to have an ECM outran by a fighter, and an CO going the game’s max speed.
on a gunship - you’d want to maximize what you do best ie. damage with what little passives you’ve got
except on deagle maybe - i have hull resist on top of the regular weapon passives
Yeah but rails and gauss have travel time so I miss alot, though I still can’t hit orbiting inties much even with lasers and I equip the range bonus stuff, damage is not that good though. Maybe I’ll just have to glass cannon the gunships til I unlock command then.
I disagree, thermal resists are mostly useless nowadays.
Em & kinetic are biggest players atm
Useless? Ok, how about almost every damned module in existence? Plasma Web, Disintegrator, Engineer Drones, Pulsar, Plasma Arc, etc, etc, etc… Having one of those and a Kinetic one, even on shields, is very effective, so I’ve found.

Although that is a fair point, in 99% of the cases I(Not you) am never hit with thermal and only with EM and the occasional kinetic(usually a missile or shrapnel cannon) and if the nemy still has engineer drones then you are doing something wrong Spam those missiles!
That is why I rarely fit thermal resists anymore. In the past half the time you were hit by thermal because every missile basicly was thermal + modules, but now most missiles are eihter EM or kinetic.

Except for the lasers from combat drones protecting engineers and beacons, standard missiles, those caused by Covert Ops, and a lot others as well. As for main guns, thermals not an issue.

My point is that if you don’t sit still, main weapons are not a concern to you (even to a Frigate). As a Ceptor pilot, I find having a Thermal and/or Kinetic resists to be my best options.
Multiphase was probably compulsory fit before 0.9 but not so much now
The amount of burst damage being done now and low healing rates mean you’d lose shields even before energy used is recovered that it’s not worth it anymore.
one on one’s you still get that semi god mode, or those long range shoot outs in higher tiers but other than that it’s got little application left. better to double up on frig support mods like damage and speed boost along with the 2 res boosters.

evidence that different ship classes and roles have different tanking needs. for eg, Frigs hardly take thermal damage other than volley missiles. Fighters get harassed by inties normally sporting shrapnel, inties being spray painted by lasers (you can dodge the other sniper weapons) so i’d say the default consideration is:
Interceptor = Thermal
Fighters = Kinetic
Frigates = EM (Jericho) Kinetic (Empire) Omni or Boost (Federation)
then adjust according to combat logs / experience.

I can tell you right now, the MBBs I meet on the field are rare. As a Frigate pilot. They’re a LOT deadlier to Fighter/Ceptor pilots.
The resists you fit mostly depend on which ships you decide to attack.

or that … which is an interesting new thing with 0.9
anyways - when flying in decent random teams, pinging the dirty fighter that’s spewing out blueballs normally equate to insta-death for the offender as we all swarm Singularities first. Engineers not even second on the priority list nowadays.
