Hello world (galaxy?)! I'm new and I have some questions to devs and players

Didn’t find a “Newbie” section on this forum so I decided to put this thread in misc. Also - if I make a mistake feel free to PM me a correction - still learning english (but you don’t have to write anything in painfully short and easy sentences, I understand people well - I’m just really bad at writing and terrible at talking. lol).

Anyway, I’m new in this game and so far I find it surprisingly enjoyable, but there are some things I’d like to ask.

  1. I wanted to change the game language (steam version) from polish to english because it’s much easier to search info about the game mechanics using english terms and weapon/ship names etc, english voices in the menu and during the battle cannot be heared for some reason and to be completely honest - it is translated very poorly (no offence to the devs, I know that translating a game can be difficult and costly, but right now it is really bad… Sometimes there is english and polish on the same screen, and there are a ton of spelling and grammar mistakes - reminds me the “Zero Wing” game and that famous “All your base are belong to us”) - unfortunately every time I change the game language (right click the game on Steam library => properties => language tab), it switches back to polish if I run the game second time or after shutting down the computer. Is there a way to fix this bug, maybe editing some configuration files?

  1. Every time I play the game it shows me a message that I can “like” the Star Conflict page on Facebook to get 100 GS. However when I go to my account setting in the game, I cannot add my facebook account. It looks like I’ve already linked my FB account to the game because I can publish screenshots etc and I liked the page, but it still showes me that message - and now I don’t remember if I got the GS or not. Should I write a ticket to the support?

Warning for people on phones and limited internet - big screenshots in spoiler (1680 x 1050)

  1. Most MMOs I’ve played so far have premium weapons/tanks/ships/planes/whatever that only make some serious cash if they are ultra expensive and have high level. Is it exactly the same in this game? Are tier 2 and 3 premium ships worth the money? I’d like to buy DLC (either the “Soldier of Fortune” or “Pirate Pack - Corsair”, both are 19€ each), right now can’t decide which one is better. Or maybe should I save money for the “Jolly Roger” for 49,99€?

  1. It may seem trivial, but… is there a way to turn off the menu music? This game has a very good sundtrack and I like listening to it when in battle or open space, but the track in menu gets old very quickly.

  1. Speaking of the translation… I noticed in the options that I can participate in the translation process by sending corrections to the devs. Dang, I will probably sound like a very selfish xxxxxxx now, but supposedly asking does not hurt - are there any small rewards for this? To be honest I do have some spare time right know and just like that I could send a ton of messages about various mistakes, but it’s not something very relaxing thing to do - sit down on a chair and for an hour or two writing messages and often checking words in dictionary to ensure that I translated everything just fine. It would be really nice to have at least a symbolic reward. Just saying.

Also, would you like to have these messages in a specific template? Should I precisely explain in english what is wrong with that particular centence and then write a correct version in polish?

Well, I’m pretty sure it’s not possible to turn off the music in just the hangar, unfortunately. You can turn off all the music, which makes it easier to hear everything else in-game, though. Personal choices, though.

But the thing about English – since you use steam, you can set the language there. Right click Star Conflict, go to “properties” (should be the very last option on the bottom), then to the “language” tab. Then choose English. This should make it so the language stops changing every time you start it up.

There are a few different premium things you can get:

You can buy a license, which boosts credit, voucher, and monocrystal income by 50%. Helps with the grind, but the prices are too high for me, personally.

You can also buy premium ships, which immediately have full synergy, get one free respawn per invasion outing, two extra inventory slots for use in invasion, have no ammo or repair costs, as well as boosted free synergy income. Most aren’t actually better than their counterparts, instead filling out alternate roles – sidegrades, if you will. Of course, there are a few notable exceptions, but those are mostly T5 anyways.

And finally, you can buy two premium-only modules for your ships. They are the spatial scanner and extended hull. Spatial scanner increases crit chance by about as much as a green infrared scanner. However, when using it in invasion, it can be used to see proximity to and relative location of enemies, various loots, and the ever-so-aptly named mysterious containers. Mysterious containers aren’t really worth it unless in the frontier, where loot found inside them is worth 10x what they would be anywhere else. They’re also the only way to find various blueprints, although the chance of finding the one you actually want is probably somewhere in the vicinity of .001%. Extended hull increases hull volume by about as much as a green reinforced hull. However, when using it in invasion, it grants an extra three inventory slots, up to a maximum of 15, if I recall correctly.

Of course, there’s a few extra functions. The shop has a few “bundles”, which have a chance of giving out rare items that have a highly limited income in the rest of the game. Or the ship bundles, which are cheaper than buying individual ships and also give out unique stickers.

You can exchange premium currency for non-premium currency at a rate of about 5 million credits for $10. Just so you know, in those terms, buying a rank 15 ship would cost about $25. Then again, you can look at the other premiums in T5 when they’re not on sale, and they’re each worth about $40… Alas, this is meant to be a guide on what premium currency is for, not a statement about how insane the monetization of the game is.

You can also exchange premium currency for that synergy you have stuck on your ships that you flew even after reaching max level, at a rate of 150 synergy for 1 gs. Of course, no one uses this because it’s impossible to get any significant amount of synergy for any reasonable amount of money.

And finally, you can decorate your ships with paint and stickers. None of them are reusable, meaning if you buy a sticker for one ship, it’s stuck on that ship. And if you change that sticker out, you have to buy it again if you want to switch back. Same applies to paint. Stickers were once reusable, so more veteran players might be seen using one or two. A few paint skins were given out that were reusable as well, one of which you can still get by buying any DLC.

Final word of warning on buying anything: Everything is still expensive on sale, unless it’s that one sale that happened on this past New Year’s, when all premiums were worth 2015 gs. But that lasted all of three hours or something, so just wait until it’s 50% off, since that’s the most you’re ever going to get.

Right click Star Conflict, go to “properties” (should be the very last option on the bottom), then to the “language” tab. Then choose English. That’s exactly what I was doing the whole time. I’ve talked to some other people playing this game and it seems to be a bug, but nobody can tell which thing is guilty - the game or the steam client. I even tried to force it using the steam launch options (-language english) and it didn’t work at all.

Thanks for explaining everything else, but my main question seems to remain unanswered: are the low tier premium ships worth the attention? Here’s what I mean: I played World of Tanks a lot. There are premium tanks, some on lower tiers and some on higher tiers. However those low-level premium vehicles are mostly for decoration and/or fun - they don’t earn a lot of money and they don’t get much more exp when compared to regular tanks on the same tier.

Now let’s get back to Star Conflict so the devs don’t ban me on forum for talking about their competitors (lol). Right now every PvE battle gives me about 180 000 credits and that’s only when the team finishes the mission completely. And all these missions usually take more time than PvP, so earning credits for rank 7+ ships and upgrades can be pretty exhausting. Can tier 2 and tier 3 ships speed this up considerably? Or maybe these ships are better for collectors and their income is increased symbolically, which means I should save money for some serious ships in tier IV and V?

Higher tier pve has higher rewards, but is also much harder to complete. Certain t5 premiums are also flatly better than the standard ships.(looking at you spark)

Ah, right. Premium ships do not have an income bonus except to free synergy. As it is, unless you fly those ships very, very often, you won’t get significantly more free synergy than you would have otherwise. So investing money into premium ships will not make your grind any easier. However, income does increase with tier played, so take that into account.

On the topic of what ranks to buy, ships of rank 1-3 cannot be flown against other ships of rank 1-3 once you buy your first rank 4 or some other nebulous concepts. I highly suggest not buying those. Ships of rank 4-6 are slightly more expensive and slightly more usable, but overall a bad investment, as well.

There are more premiums in tier 3 (ranks 7-9) than there are of any other tier. Not only that, but tier 3 is also the de facto end game. Tier three purchases are easily the best bang for your buck, in terms of premium ships. Again, wait for a sale before buying. Fair warning, you may have to wait for about a year, but that makes them cost less than five dollars each.

Tier 4 (ranks 10-12) is rarely played by anybody but people who don’t know how to fly or equip more than one ship at a time. None of the premiums in this tier are particularly spectacular, at that. I do not suggest getting any.

Tier 5 (13-15) is also rarely played by anybody but people who don’t know how to fly or equip more than one ship at a time, but there’s one or two people who know what objectives are per game, usually. There are a number of very popular premiums that are hands-down better than their credit counterparts. However, they’re also priced at about $10 each, so they’re pretty ridiculous, even on sale.

Thanks, it’s really helpful. +1

First, premium ships have most of their value from the fact that they do not need repairs. In Tier 4 and 5 this becomes invaluable because repair costs are ludicrously high. They also get a 20% bonus to free synergy gain that can be used on other ships to level them up.

Second, many premium ships have slot configurations or ship bonuses that are different from their normal brethren. Take for example, the Patriarch, which has more damage potential than the Inquisitor, at the cost of defense potential.

Lastly, I own several pirate ships (Sai, Reaper, Blood Tormentor, Sawtooth) as well as several other premiums. I have found that any premium ship below Tier 3 is a waste of money. The majority of your games will take place in Tier 3 and up. And that is where progression starts to get really hard and you will need those ship income bonuses. Also, never buy full-price premiums. Wait for the sales!!! I can’t begin to tell you how much money I saved by waiting for sales before buying. Sometimes I got 3 premium ships for the price of one! The key is to be patient.

Good luck!

P.S. Here is a review I did on the Privateer DLC pack. [http://forum.star-conflict.com/index.php?/topic/20461-jolly-roger-dlc-review/#entry208764](< base_url >/index.php?/topic/20461-jolly-roger-dlc-review/#entry208764)
