Nonsense, in Terramorphing station there is enough graphite, i usually drop it since its so useless junk. Just get the “valuable asteroids” and u have like 10% chance o it.
Water Harvest and Scrapyard as well. Get R7 or R9 Tackler and just pickup the rocks, go to drone when full, turn invisible when enemy is nearby, repeat till vomit.
Search for impure graphite in captured dreadnought area. Tons of them. There was another sector but forgot which - has to be one of the federation’s 3 south systems, mining stations probably.

Dunno what you have a problem with. Seriously. If you have R9 ships, buy R10 tackler with cruise engines and off you go. I am literally dropping graphite as useless cargo filler.
And if you are getting killed by predator - you are in wrong ship.
So here is your recipe for graphite:
have one cruise tackler ready (preferably federation one) with emergency barrier and one or two heals
go to ANY R7/R10 sector
pick up valuable minerals as long as you have enough impure graphite. In alien sectors you have other names for containers
