For some reason I can see the main english chatroom while in invasion, but I cannot type a reply in it and have to private message. Can anyone tell me how to reply to the english chat rather than the sector chat?

Not sure, but they kept the same system for Invasion as for PVP, and for PVP it made sense: you should not by typing while fighting! (in theory - in practice I actually find myself typing a lot latey to te those f***ing LRFs on my team to move their a***es and get to the next beacon, instead of staying on the spawn… :00555: )

because the game is incomplete. you can disable it in the options if you do not want to see it.
