You’re using a Gauss Cannon on a Spark.
Spark is awesome with gauss, well pretty much every gun is awesome on a spark.

No, No, No
One Inertia stabalizer(+48% to strafe), rank 5 middle Implant(+75% to strafe) and one Vernier engine(+37% instead of +30% you get from Implant) is more effective(223% Strafe and 137% Rotation) then what you suggest (186.4% strafe and 130% Rotation).
I never thought about it like that. That actually makes a lot more sense.
Spark is awesome with gauss, well pretty much every gun is awesome on a spark.
In theory, the Excalibur would beat the Spark out of possibility. Sure, the Spark has the extra 25% damage output, but the Excalibur has a diffusion shield you can tank to 410% with three compact shields and the Rank 7 implant, plus three CPU slots you can crit-build the f… out of. You’re better off with Ion Emitters on the Spark than any other gun, from my perspective…

Not true.
Excalibur has fewer CPU slots (so no crits, which is a huge part of you damage for gauss), no aiming overcharge, and the diffusion tank isn’t constant tank like hull tank is. The 25% damage buff of the spark is kinda negated by valkyrie, but valkyrie isn’t a constant source of damage. Excalibur’s only advantage over the Spark is kinetic bonuses.
Imo, Mjolnir is still slightly better than the Spark for gauss (with the right build of course). Mjolnir has the kinetic bonuses, as well as access to the same active modules. Only difference is the Mjolnir only has a 15% damage boost instead of 25%. But imo, the proj speed bonus makes up for that.
@Cr0 (and Hyperion’s OP)
For hull tank, I typically use 1x galvenized, 1x kinetic, 1x armor plated on my Spark. It gives you a nice 100/101 points of resistance for all resistances, as well as a nice, large hull volume.
Gauss is trash on any jerry ship, especially commands since you lose so much energy from diffusion shield + shield regens that you have little energy left for afterburning + strafe. In my opinion the kinetic bonus for projectile speed/spread reduction is useless. The factor that makes gauss good on mjolnir is having more engine slots for strafe. Overall I think that gauss is better on the spark most of the time, but if you are good at using strafe you can make the mjolnir work just as well.

Not all jeri ships. Jeri tacklers can work well with gauss. I found the Katana-AE worked pretty well with it, as does the Sawtooth. I still prefer fed tacklers for gauss over any other ship though (especially since the Rockwell and Bear both scream ‘USE GAUSS’), but that’s me.
BCHyperion: Why ask if you are doing it correctly if you can’t take feedback? Cro is entirely correct in his evaluation… You are wrong. So git gud
I appreciate feedback along with valuable information like john and darth have posted. It is understandable that you would believe cr0 is correct, because you are not very good at the game.

u wot m8?
mill is right, don’t discount what Cr0 says. He’s probably the best gauss gunship pilot in the game.
I’ll go through modules in order.
Capacitor: Heatsink does nothing/as good as nothing on gauss. Better options are 2nd pulse/EB/energy regen.
Heatsink decreases the time you need to charge your weapon, but Pulse Disharger is better for most playstiles since you have more dmg when having a full charged gaauss
CPU: Would never fly a gauss ship without overclocked cpu, I’d prefer overclocked and 2 crit dmg, crit chance is good enough on charges anyway.
It isn’t wrong to get the Gauss to 36.5% krit chance
- On every gauss ship I use 1x horizon, even with only one cpu.
Why is your prefered way with overclocked and 2 crit dmg when you go all the time with an horizon
tossing rotation so It’s harder for me to infight interceptors?
Strafing is espeacilly good for evading fire from far away enemies and not dogfighting and since gauss cannon is a weapon for distance you don’t wanna dogfight all the time but when you have you just strafe a bit so you are harder to hit and fly backwards so the Inty is in front of you again(hopefully)

Extended Hull 32% and no speed decrease vs Armor Plated 39% and 7% speed decrease
10611 pts hull and 285m/s vs 11096 and 263m/s
Is it really worth to sacrifice 22m/s speed to get 485pts more hull ?
…
@John161
The effect of heatsink is very small, barely worth considering. Overdrive is what you use to decrease charge time when you need to.
I find lock time much more important than the extra crit chance, boosting crit chance isn’t bad but charged shots do enough damage anyway.
I don’t use horizon, 50% of the time no range buff, other times use range implant. That post was before using the lock speed module + lock time increasing patch. I would use horizon on a command with gauss but gunship doesn’t need it any more.
It isn’t wrong to get the Gauss to 36.5% krit chance
No, but that is typically better for max alpha damage gauss, which is typically best suited for tacklers. Gunships combine DPS and the alpha damage, so getting up to 34% crit chance isn’t as necessary, especially since you have aiming overcharge.

By that same logic, Reinforced Beams are better than Extended Hull.
That 7% more hull makes a nice difference, and going 22 m/s slower doesn’t matter terribly much, as typically, when using a gauss gunship, you are sitting in one area sniping from range. If you need a burst of speed to escape, pirate engine overcharge or overdrive give you that.
@Cr0
k maybe i should sometimes look at the date from when the post is…
with heatsink you gauss charges 10% faster then wihtout and 10% is 10% but I said nowhere that this 10% faster chrages are better then 10% more dmg per shot
Charged shots only increase the crit chance(every state of charging adds your crit chance on top of you current crit chance ->
with 26% you get a max value of 78%
with 36.5% you get a max value of 109.5% -> a guaranteed crit shot
with heatsink you gauss charges 10% faster then wihtout and 10% is 10% but I said nowhere that this 10% faster chrages are better then 10% more dmg per shot
10-11% isn’t much on gauss, overdrive gives you 50%.
As for crit chance, it’s better to focus on crit damage for a gunship, as you have aiming overcharge to give you crit chance. If you make your base chance 34%+, you are wasting cpu slots that could be used for crit damage, making your overdrive w/ aiming overcharge less effective.

I only said it isn’t wrong not that it’s the best way(Imo Gauss is nearly never the best way you can go on an gunhsip)

Extended hull doesn’t have any disadvantages over the Reinforced Beams so by the same logic Extended Hull is better coz more hull but the everything else is not changed.

You are getting repitive
10-11% isn’t much on gauss, overdrive gives you 50%.
Yeah Yeah I know but 10% is 10% and it is much you just don’t feel it as much coz Overdrive is as you said 50% and 10% of charging the gun is only a split second and 50% nerly half a second(or more i Don’t remeber the numbers)
What is Gauss?

My entire playstyle is based around strafing, It’s just that xxxx players are easy to hit and good interceptor pilots will get as close to you as possible. Turnspeed has saved my xxxx several times already.

I’m doing reasonably well with gauss and I don’t see him on any of the weekly leaderboards. I do not disagree with everything he said but the things I do disagree with is because he failed to sell his opinions both with words and available statistics. I do not count things like win rate and kills/game for players that play middle and low tiers because they are so easy to get versus low synergy and badly green/white gear equipped players. I do not like playing in the leveling path. It is destructive to the community and too easy.
Regardless, I still prefer lasers because I have to play with a high ping regularly, which makes turnkey users incredibly hard to hit with projectiles and with lazers all I have to do is hold fire and track.

Lol man. Have you ever considered that people who play this game for years have no desire and no need to be in any leaderboards? Just because he doesnt exist in your timezone doesn’t mean that you can post such crab.
It’s ok man, Ion beams are good, we all have that phase.

Clearly no experience using gauss in t5, obviously the tier where all tournaments are held + dreads take place is just the levelling path.
