Frigate Quesstion

has anyone seen the MAC/Sniper type weapons that frigates have? Does anyone know where to get them? I only have the TV-guided torpedo on my Jericho Frigate (the 1st one you get)

Yeah, the Empire Frigates have the “Disintegrator” sniper ability.

Ship abilities differ from ship type to ship type, and from faction to faction. For example, Federation Frigates have neither guided torpedoes nor the sniper-rather they have close range combat drones.

 

If you wish to switch faction, change your contract to one of the subfactions.

Would you say that’s better or worse than the TV torpedos/Drones? 

as long as you can’t work with it, it’s both bad. there are already too many frig-pilots which sit in the back, try to use their ability and hurt their team because they don’t help to fulfill the targets (capture beacon, defend station/bomb carrier). and because they’re sitting out of range somewhere in nowhere, they don’t help with their active modules (healing etc)

I think we have enough frigs around…most who plays frig can’t support the team properly and only wants to pew pew.

this +1000000 , sad but true , me loves to play my frigs. , OFFENSIVLY  , you know , there is a good camping position in capture the beacon … the BEACONS , i swear . There is a good camping position in Emp-runs … near the position where the BOMB spawns … i swear . And honestly , at this positions , sniper/torps- abilities are not disabled :wink:

Well imo Frigates are both a blessing and a curse, in good hands a couple of frigates can be the workhorse of the fleet and either clear paths with the torps or just snipe the hell outta of the other frigs, but mostly what i see, in my so far short experience in the game, is that, for example, when i am about to capture or take away a beacon, the torpedo boats instead of shooting first and clearing a path for me and the others most of the time just shoot the air or God knows where… instead of placing a round in the beacon so that we can finish off the guys there or simply to finish them themselves off , the frigate guys simply shoot us down along with the enemy… more then not our own team dies and the enemy just gets crippled but still hold the beacon.

 

Frigates have to work in pairs and be mobile.

 

The same for the bombing runs… instead of giving cover to the guy with the bomb no… when you can  please shoot the other frigs or the guys ahead of the bomb runner… if the team knows their job at least one other frig will give backup to the bomb runner.

 

Same as Fed frigates, these things are great, i’ve started Empire but i’m atm flying Federation, the Fed Frigs are so so much win sauce, these things can , when coordinated, just pop out from the other side of an asteroid and quickly finish off any foes that one or two frigates engaged… added with the capability some have to self repair through the drones these things are great when good used.

 

 

Frigates are mobile weapons platforms and not stationary campers, there has been games  when we where winning from the start and everyone just starts camping in frigates, this is about as much wrong as you can go in the game without being afk or disconnecting in the middle of the fight.

 

 

 

These are my ( meager ) 5 cents on the matter.

+1. Frigates must move to use their support capacities near the objectives. I play them like that, and this is more interesting than sitting back in the map.

For all their flaws, Fed frigates are at least forced to play this way since they lack sniping. They will nearly always be where the action is, lending aid to the cause.

Fed Frigates just rock as long as they get support by the fighters and intis. it’s a taking and giving and with good pilots it’s just fun. you heal them and deal massive damage to the enemies while they distract the enemies. you’re in the middle of the action and it’s just awesome *-* but only with good pilots, too many dipshits in the smaller ships just see me flying towards them and think “oh, a frigate, he’ll do it, i run away like the [female genital tract]  i am”

I agree Fed Frigs make good support. Love the abilities to sheild tank, max shield tank with the assistance of fighters and ints and it’s a good game. Soon as they abandon you it’s 1 shot from the designator.
