It seems that the media folder on the forum subdomain does just not work right
The secondary effect, topics missing pictures, and the lack of a default picture / CSS fixes for such matters in the software also make the Forum Topics sometimes hard to read, if a lot of people post without a picture, and instead the alternative text is displayed.
There is no real Bug Report or Discussion section which deals with community stuff, so I post this here; I have not found a topic on this, but maybe I am blind.
It’s not life threatening, but definitely an annoyance, and one of these bugs which might take time to locate, but is maybe quick to fix.

No, it’s not just you.
I already reported this issue to support and they are aware of it.
Of course, this only means that they have acknowledged the problem.
Whether or not will they will fix it, remains to be seen. Since the issue is already present for a month(s), if not more, don’t get your hopes up.
I would certainly be ashamed, if I would announce official release of the game, but left this bugged as it is.
First impression is everything. New players will notice that, I can assure you.
Note, that like Entersprite noted in another thread, a workaround for profile pics is to use gravatar; that is an external image and works and is changed on the gravatar/wordpress homepage.
To have multiple pictures on the same email account in gravatar, and you have gmail (or a provider which also supports this), you can use the good old mail+custom-trick: username+something@gmail is the same as username@gmail; everything after and inclusive the + is just cosmetic; so you can set up multiple gravatar pics on the same account by adding different adresses this way, and enter the email with the correct +suffix into the forum field (you will still get all emails).
This way you can use the same gravatar account but change e.g. the sc forum profile picture separately.
