Summary
Using my main account, I was unable to start the game due to the error;
SteamServices.cpp(415) : Assertion: friendsCount >= 0 && friendsCount <= ( i32 )g_friends.capacity()
My friends list is definitely greater than or equal to zero, so I’m going to assume that the issue lies within my friends list being ‘over’ the current capacity.
The friend count in question was 233 at the time. I google’d whether or not this was a common error and I couldn’t find a single article mentioning it.
My thoughts on this are that possibly the API Star Conflict uses is old and the capacity for friends was lower at the time the API was released, or maybe the API updated lately and I really am over the capacity. Either way, I can’t play the game on that account, which is a shame!

P.S.
The template for reporting errors etc. asks to upload the logs located in the /Star Conflict/logs/ folder, but the forum restricts the upload and attaching of files with the filetype of .log. I renamed mine to have the filetype .txt to get around this, but it could be a minor inconvenience to others in the future.
