Engineer Guide

I’m all about survival and getting the most kills, assists, and caps as possible. bomber.gif  fighter.gif  bomber.gif

I’d rather come out alive. I play my ships like im actually in them

Your much more useful using the cloud and helping your team. By keeping the rest of your team alive they will keep the heat off of you allowing you time to do more damage.

Or you know, just don’t fly Engineer, LRFs are much better at killing stuff. If you fly an Engineer, people will assume you will heal, and probably won’t pick Engie next to you.

True as well.

Engies should spread out and maximize their coverage. It helps that Fed and Emp engies have different strengths and playstyles.

now if only the pilots who take engies could be counted on to truly heal.

When in doubt, fly your own engie.

He’s talking about nanocoating, the resistance module, the one that replaces something more useful, like a repair station or an energy module, he’s not talking about the Nanodrone cloud.

Bummer

guy’s i always have my auras on… in T2 i don’t think you have the stations. The energy emitter seems useless to me. Energy regen is fast already

I put 3x auras on my Engies… Energy is must have, most pilots don’t have positive energy regen and when they do they can contribute more for a team.

I realized I’ve grown too used to tanky Imperial engies that I can’t fly Fed ones for nuts.

I run it on my Styx for a couple of reasons:

  • I used to squad up with a friend who mainly flies Jeri ships (esp commands) so I use it to boost his diffusion shield’s tanking.
  • Previously I used my cap slot for a pulse discharger (switched to accel coils now), so my energy regen was lower than normal.
  • Even without the energy penalty from PD, my Styx still cannot AB forever with the double heals on without energy emitter. Max energy regen stands at 175, AB energy usage is 173. Each heal aura takes 41 energy (total 82), and energy emitter costs 7 energy and gives 89 (net 82). Energy emitter also gives its energy in pulses so I actually cannot AB forever even though the math adds up.

Empire Engineer and Federation Engineer may as well be two separate guides, they play completely different from each other. Trying to play a Anaconda like a Styx will get you killed a lot and vice-versa.

I actually keep both T3 Engineers in my ship loadouts. Valor is speedy ambulance and Styx is immobile healbot.

On my Styx I have heals as it’s sole purpose. Both heal auras and both stations with Eclipse Launcher. Perfect for gamemodes like Deathmatch and Combat Recon where the fight does not move much and as NASA call is, Fighting in the Asteroid Wars. Giving your team that safe haven to fall back to with double-heals is the best thing, especially when running a squad.

Valor is the Engineer I use when I know I’ll have to move around the map a lot. Triple Aura with a personal Repair Kit when I take a lot of fire. Helps the team greatly when you can assault a beacon with constant health and energy buffs.

Personally I use collision compensators because I favour strafing over rotation (I run the F5 strafe implant as well). My Styx’s main role is to heal, but I run it also as an offtank. Strafe helps me duck in and out of cover, and avoid attacks while keeping my ship pointing towards the enemy. I actually don’t run two remote stations because of my high energy usage (I’m almost constantly AB strafing when I’m attracting aggro) so I slot in an energy emitter.

I’m curious about the EB though… the Styx is ridiculously durable, and my sense of self-preservation usually kicks in early enough for me to drift back into cover.

I’ll love to see a vid of you flying your Valor. I can more or less see the overall strategy, but the nuances of Fed engie play are definitely lost on me.

And that sticker. I haven’t seen anyone else use that before until now.

I don’t fly Styx as much as I used to, so I’m kinda experimenting with builds, trying things that may seem a bit weird on paper. Could probably swap the EB for coils, considering any occasion EB activates, my team is probably getting curbstomped into next week.

As for a vid for the Valor, I’ll see what I can do with a day of flying while recording.

Pardon double post but here’s two quick beacon cap games in my Valor. Not particularly skillful, but hey.

I loved flying the Anaconda, so probably would love the Valor too. Too bad it’s a p2w tier, meh.

I dont really like using fed engies, i do know that ur supposed to run around and not stay in 1 spot (i do fly around) but the problem is, if the enemies are bunkered down behind some astroid i would have to shoot at them (fed engie should have afterburners on most times) but then i would have to turn back after a few seconds because if i keep flying id run into enemy territory which sucks because if you just stay in 1 spot behind an astroid (if ur on styx or something) u would be able to constantly shoot at the enemy and deal maximum dmg while fed engies could only shoot a little before they need to swing around and retreat i dont know if what im saying makes sense or not but if u have a general idea of how speed may be a disadvantage then u should

That’s because Fed anything is bad at anything that doesn’t take advantage of its mobility and speed. Your post is why I keep both Fed and Emp engineers in my lineup; because Styx is better at slow, cover-heavy sieges. Just as Valor/Anaconda is better at capping beacons.

Still, a strategy you can do is to bait those enemies out of cover. Get them to chase you and feed them into your teammates.

I use torps on anaconda but it cant tank so i end up severely damaging myself when i hit intys with it and im not a big fan of droness either

Considering how fast GeneInari’s engie was, I don’t think it’s that much of an issue. Of course you don’t go rushing in alone.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but you can fly Fed engies as though they’re fighters, right? I’m still in the process of studying the videos and learning.

fly them as fighters: thats what they all say but its not true, if u play like a fighter u die. You have extremely low rotation speed compared to a fighter, not to mention theres always a joy of killing weak frigates, fed engies are fast, but not fast enough, and not tanky enough, they can be easily taken down if u cant pilot it properly. Seems to me everyone is in operation:anti-frigate people ALWAYS gang up on frigates expecially the ones that dont have much health, like LRFs and fed engies.
