Engi Primary

The Beam cannon seems really weak (Like being slapped with a wet noodle) Heavy blaster ok haven’t’t tried Positron and Coil mortar is awesome against slow ships with high hull and shield strength but useless against interceptors and faster moving ships.

Hello,

This is mainly depending of what Faction you’re flying.

Weapons selection depend of the ship you’re flying, your Gameplay and Positionning.

I think that their is “no main” weapons for engineers but “Related Game Style Weapon”.

Split vote for positron and coil mortar.

Both are very good at certain situations. Coil mortar is easier to use, has more sustained dps, and easier to defend yourself in close range. Positron has better alpha, requires more skill to use due to faster overheat and aim, good sniping and long range weapon, works great in conjunction with your drone fire support - in situations where you can keep your shields up, you can do amazing damage and snag kills with combination of drone fire and positron.

But sometimes when you get ganked you wish you had CM with you, and sometimes when you are at longer ranges you wish you had Positron to snipe that interceptor.

That is a very diplomatic stance on the question :). I am playing fed Engi. I don’t really know what “role” to play as I am new to Engi in PVP (I have just been grinding the Engi out in PVE) I guess supportive sounds good. I find my self all on my lonesome very easily though and then I get picked of by interceptors lol. I am not used to keeping a consent watch of where my team is or else I wont be able to catch up.

Such is life

Using positron will help you teach your role and positioning more naturally, because you will want to stay at range, while CM will force you getting closer, which is not what you want to do.

If you don’t expose yourself too much, it is better to stay away from the heat and be taken down from that charging gunship or interceptor from time to time, rather than staying closer “with dependable weapon” and being ganked at all the time.

And remember, every time an enemy decides that he will go for that engineer 3k away from the beacon and behind that asteroid, he abandoned the objective for capture. They have to choose: can have the beacon, or the engineer. Cannot have both. And with 4k range on your positron, it is the best weapon to teach your this role.

Considering my Styx can have up to 70k survivability with boosters, I usually use coil mortars.

Empire Engi?

Empire Engi?

:stuck_out_tongue:

_ “Mobility is the Key of Victory” _ —> Federal’s Engineer.

I prefer Mortar on Federation’s engineer for “Hit and Run”, “Flanking” and “Fast Cleanning” after Repositionning, Combined with Octopus/Cruise Missile/Torpedo.

Run —> Drop Station —> Shoot / Missile a target —> Evade/Bait people locked on You. (Most of the time you can lure people into an Allied Guard because they are too much focus on you).

With an High Mobility Engineer, you will be able to Counter some ennemy’s moves, giving Support Fire/Regeneration buff where they are needed faster than with an Imperial Engineer.

This kind of little thing can drastically change a battle.

You are easier to kill while using mortar cause of the low range compare to positron but you don’t have slow barrel and you will stay mobile and have more positionning (Re-positionning) options, Using the main particularity of Federation’s Ships

_ “This is My beacon, and it will stay Mine” _ —> Imperial’s Engineer.

Usually using Positron Cannon or Heavy Blaster, Giving a true power of Denial Flying Area. Drones (Special Module) provide you a good defense against Interceptors.

Taking a back line position provide : Comfort Zone (for you and Allies who need repairs) / Naturally attract teamates (and ennemies sometime), Safe Repositonning and still be able to Shoot people :D.

If you want to go on the FrontLine, just stick next to your guards (if you have one in your team) and ask your team to keep an eye on you.

And if you are attacked, You can just tank the ennemy until somebody of your team come defend you (or you just kill the ennemy).

Add some “Attack drone”, “Torpedo” or “Anomaly Generator” (Yes the DeathRay :D) and Profit

In Conclusion :

Engineer’s Weapons are supposed to fit with what _ YOU  _want/have to do in battle, and Where  YOU want/have to be during the battle.

Each Player have is Own gameplay (and the explanation I made correspond to my point of view about Engineer in few lines).

The best way to choose the weapons of your engineer is to “test them” and find the one which will correspond to you. Don’t forget to try to change your weapons Implants, that could make the test of some weapon easier.

In the actual meta, there is no “God Tiers Frigate weapon” (No, the mortar is not the Ultimate weapon).

And you will be able to make your own rating about Engineer’s Weapons.

My opinion on each:

Beam Cannon - Hitscan, but abysmal DPS makes it a bare-bones weapon to fend off interceptors with. Very good on LRF, but if I’m taking an active combat role as engy, I won’t be able to kill anything fast enough with it.

Heavy Blaster - The DPS of this thing would make it a beast if it weren’t for the slow barrels. You can very much play an active combat role with this weapon, but it’s a suppression weapon at best if your enemy is fortified.

Coil Mortar - RoF and damage on this baby, plus kinetic and splash damage make it a nightmare to deal with. It’s a medium-range weapon, though, so chances are you’ll become a prime target if the enemy sees you throwing xxxx around with it. Also, don’t be surprised if you kill yourself with it.

Positron Cannon - Ideal for the frigate that stays back (read: engies), due to damage and range. It’s a xxxxx weapon when it comes to self-defense, though, but there’s always your drones. Just call for help if an assassinceptor slaps you with his plasmadick.

Great Points in these threads for those that fly Frigates as mainstays !  :good:

Usually I go for Positron if im in an Empire Engi and for Coils in a Fed Engi.

Especially for the Fed Engi you can also make a good use of your drones, they are quite powerful.

In T2 you can also try the Blaster with spread reduction. Its fun.

Positron styx refuses to die in most 1 v 1 s

More like Styx refuses to die in most situations.

True that

I get so many fear me medals in my Styx, I know it’s OP.

The Styx has always been an absurdly powerful ship. I remember back when healing was stronger and Engineers had six guns. Half the ships in every T3 battle would be Styx (or “Cerberus 2” as it was then).

There are no singular ships that can check a full purple styx except another styx
