Elite:Dangerous

Oookk, found a fancy space game with a mind blowing price, looks good, graphic looks good but tbh, ships are ugly as hell,SC has better ship design.Anybody know this?

I’d like to have a licensed copy of this but the 75$ changes my mind lel.

new

Been living under a rock, have you? It’s still in “premium” beta, hence the price tag.

Once released it’ll be a full price game with paid for expansions.

No,been blazing through the internet, and this is still in beta sooo i’ll just say it’s new lel.

That is hardly new, in fact I think that game has been around longer than Star Citizen. It is far more advanced in the development, but the art and mechanics don’t fit me.

Star Citizen is looking better and better each patch, and they are only testing physics…

Also, with Star Citizen backing you have access to all the game already, and in Elite you have to buy an “expansion pack” so you will have access to all the expansions in the future, aside from the high cost, premium beta tag.

But, as today, Elite Dangerous is more “real” than Star Citizen, and looks neat.

Given the prices in the Star Citizen micro- macro-transactions store I really don’t think you can talk about high cost associated with E:D in comparison. xD

Besides, E:D will be released this year, Star Citizen at the earliest two years later, so you’ve got ample time to play both.

Oh well, I’m talking about rational purchases (Aurora MR or 300i) which gives you access to all the game, alpha, beta etc, for less than the cost of the final product.

I will get E.D, but later, when the price is more in line with my current Star Citizen investment (44€)

Yep, I haven’t “invested” in either yet, I’ll wait to see what actually releases in both cases. I don’t pay for beta testing, ever.

Me neither, but preordering a game under the retail price and having the possibility to take a look at the developing process is quite nice, for that amount

uhm try to watch the trailer and the shape of the ships??? it looks like flying saucer’s

the grapichs inside combat was horrible to watch on that demo, watching this ugly flat shaped ship shot some enemy with those horrible grapichs.

if you want a proper space game, find the biggest crowdfunding project in history, https://robertsspaceindustries.com

500 000 people has payed for the game and its still years from release.

The designs in Elite:Dangerous are retro (c64 wiki image); they orient themselves on the original Elite, which was the first sandbox space game, when computers were still built into keyboards

They do design some ships to be better, but most footage wants to appeal to old Elite fans.

Elite was a cornerstone in computer game history, it makes sense. Roberts himself has actually boosted their crowdfunding, since he is better in PR. Citizen on the other hand does not continue on Roberts’ legacy, so he started from scratch.

some ships do look cool (img from their newsletter)

You want to pay $75 to play the demo of a beta?

basicly that’s what changed my mind too, citizen had much better and cheaper bundles, especially early on, to get into the beta and get some goodie, while at first, elite dangerous beta participation was even around 200$

you could still get “the whole game” cheaper than at release, just no beta participation. but that was when i last looked at their page. i am gonna wait until its out. just reading newsletters.

I bought beta yesterday costs 6o euro. Game looks and runs nice on my 5 year old machine. It takes some to to get used to ship control and how to dock a station. There is already a loots of stuff to do like trade, bounty hunting, mining, cargo delivery.

So elite dangerous release date is 16.12, backers got acces to full game 22.11.

Looks good. I have been thinking in buying the preorder for 40€, but still I don’t know if it would be worth. It seems everything is slow, like in the original game. After playing Arena Commander or Star conflict, I’m more for a twitch sim play than an old “WW2 in space” like.

The graphics and the planets and so on are great, the sound effects are also very well done. But I don’t know. Maybe in some sales afterwards.

does that include the final game?

because it seems to me, beta participation is 60, game is 40, and if you want both, you gotta pay a hundred?

It does include final game, 20 more is only for beta acces…alpha acces was realy expensive think around 150euro.

As for combat it does feel a bit slow, but it is a dam hard because how ships handle, you got pitch roll yaw +all 6directions thrusters.

Ship does not turn in every direction equaly fast and turn rate also depends on you how fast are you going.

There is also option for flight assist on and off.

With FA on it is like flying a plane and with off like a spaceship.

So it is like the old elite with new fancy graphics. That was good 30 years ago but… I would feel really stupid chasing a spaceship tail in space, instead of decoupling, strafing, using inertia, that kind of stuff.

Also, I don’t like that the game is going to be based in expansions. So if you pay 40€ now for the game, then you will have DLCs for planetary landings, WiS, I suppose campaigns…

Don’t get me wrong, the game looks awesome, but also very slow and shallow. I will give it a bit more till the hype settles down. Also, I don’t have time to play all those games, so far Star Conflict and Arena Commander are filling up my space ship hunger.
