Discord - alternative to teamspeak?

Swimming and surfing through internet I met this program.

https://discordapp.com

It claims that it’s time to ditch teamspeak and skype for game voicecomm. Dunno how much is it true, but gave it a try.

It works like RaidCall, you dont need to buy and set up server like teamspeak or mumble does. You just click “make new”, type name, choose masterserver location and its done. Most interesting feature is that you can use it through web browser, without installing anything or even without registering (but your name could be reserved later tho). Of course browser use is limited - push-to-talk will only work when browser window is on focus and it can not work with all microphones. From my testing, browser use could recognized my microphone, but my friend didnt hear anything, I could hear him tho.

Server created that way can have multiple permissions, rank, you can ban, mute and everything that stuff. Text and voice channels are separated, instead of limiting text chat to the room that user is currently. Easy and handy. There is no limit on amount of users on server.

Anyone could check it out?

running via web browser? no thank you. Star conflict on its own slowly burns cpus, don’t need to destroy it completely.

Try RaidCall.

The things i most care about a program like this is the next:

-Low pc performance hit.

-Low bandwith usage.

-Decent comunication delay (ping).

You can use desktop version, browser use is optional.

web browser? no way. i could just use google hangout.

ts uses very little server resources, which is why its a good choice for a community. it might have flaws, but in the end it’s range of features compared to the low profile of the client and server is what makes it great for gaming.

there were a lot of different products over the years with better looking, better sounding solutions, but in the end, if you get over 20 users, you want ts.
