Developer Blog entry from March, 25th. Linux, Oculus Rift, Emblems and more!

It’s been announced that Facebook’s bought Oculus.

I’m unsure about Oculus now.

I’m not sure how the chat will really be, but I only use English or in game and the current settings work fine for me.

Here’s the only thing I can really comment on.  What about FreeBSD?  I know as far as the devs are concerned it would be PCBSD for simplicity.  It might help to motivate me to fire up Xorg on my home server.  Theoretically, many of the differences should only be a recompile.

I’m really happy with the warehouse increased space! But I always wondered how modules on a ship could take place in the warehouse. It’s like if in WoW the gear your toon was wearing was also taking slots in your bank… odd.

I just think that the warehouse would not have to be that big if gear on ships was only taking place on ship slots, and that way players could buy spaces in bunch of 10 instead of 100 and at a lower cost.

But I wont complain, as long as I can gear up more ships! ;)

So are we going to be able to update our status on the Facebook Rift?

Yes, for the same reason that Marvel movies are full of songs and anthropomorphic animals after being purchased by Disney.

I want it to automatically send a status update after every battle and bought ship or module. MAKE IT HAPPEN!

With such a long delay I was sure Open World was coming. Most of these changes I can’t take advantage of so it still feels like a huge update drought. :frowning:

Same here.  When I finished reading it I was thinking, “Wait…so this was more of a compatibility update than anything else…”  Then I got to thinking that it might help the playerbase out considerably.  There are many Linux users who might seek this game out since it’s FTP and from a well-known company like Gaijin.  In terms of an actual  game update, no, I do not believe this is a large update.  I like the hanger change, though.  That’ll be quite neat.  I only wonder if it impacts game performance in the hanger?

Hopefully they fix the issue with my hangar getting 40-50 FPS and in game I get 60-70 FPS…Odd.

Would love to get ~10 fps in my hangar, or at least have a setting for it. I hate that i have to logout when i’m idle, because otherwise it will make my computer work hard even when doing nothing, just animating those little people and some low polygon spaceships flying once in a minute. I want to have a 0 cost hangar (compared to the real 3D game).

Hei man, there is a setting for it. Mine is limited to 10 FPS.

Can’t wait for the increased warehouse space :good:   hopefully it will be awhile before I HIT the limit again !!

  1. We are indeed interested in this as well and are taking steps towards this. But if you are playing on Russian server we just _cannot_ physically make your ping lower than ~150.

But you can make something to prevent players play in sever they no want, aka russian server

They won’t because it would increase the queue time with the small player base.

  1. Not many.

If you are experiencing problems with lag on your regional server - send me a PM, I will try to get info on what’s going on. Don’t forget to attach con_tester logs (and maybe snib’s pingtester logs too)

We’re not interested in you fixing our internet connections, we’re interested in you making this game not so unbalanced for non-Russian players. If you don’t live in Russia or nearby you’re screwed. I’ve played plenty of other games where you can have 200+ ping and barely even notice a difference in your gameplay. In Star Conflict, I can tell you exactly what server I’m playing on just by trying to shoot a target. If you have 200+ ping, it’s near impossible to hit things, especially interceptors.

The worst part is how the matchmaker chooses the servers. I can’t tell you how many games I’ve played in SecCon that are 4 US players vs 4 RU players. 95%+ of them are on a RU server. There isn’t a chance of making it onto the US server, because the matchmaker never chooses it. When you’re playing in a highly competitive game like squad 4v4’s high pings will make a difference, and that difference is always in Russian player’s favor. If there is a split like this it needs to go to an EU server, or at least have a 50/50 chance of going to either RU/US servers.

or you have 4xUS players vs 4xUS players on a RU server :)) (sec con and random PvP)

4 man PvE, US players -> south Asian server

Ah, heck, the cost of ships went down? And I just blew all my money on buying all the rank 7s! Oh well, it’ll make life easier whenever I need another ship later.

Also hurray my corp has its own logo!

Huh. That’s weird. I usually get ~20 fps when I focus on another window, down from ~150 fps when focused on the game. That’s probably just something my computer does on its own, though, not the game. A less power consuming option for the hangar would be neat, though. If my computer didn’t automatically use less power for the game when it’s in the background, I could definitely deal with some lower graphics in the hangar so I could alt-tab over to another window while waiting for the queue.

Absolutely correct!

+1

Unless I’m mistaken, it seems that US and RU players both have “acceptable” ping on EU servers, so I would say EU should be set to default. Yes, it would mean a marginally worse experience for Russian players on average, but a significantly improved one for the US players. Plus, in US vs RU matches they would be on more or less equal terms and could actually compete, instead of having the game decided by who has the home server advantage.

That’s all I’m asking for, but this would put Russian players at a disadvantage, which can’t be tolerated in any ways obviously. You can tell by [this post](< base_url >/index.php?/topic/22647-questions-to-the-developers-of-star-conflict-march-2014/?p=260098), the last question, by Akaurl that they have no interest in fixing this and putting a slight disadvantage to Russian players just to give the rest of the world a chance at actually playing on a server that everyone else suffers on. By making the EU server the default server, especially when the game is split evenly between US/RU players makes sense, this will likely never happen because of the Russian bias. Oh, and don’t forget about this upcoming Open World game mode, I’m betting there’s a 95% chance that the whole Open World area will be built on Russian servers. So, have fun with that.

As far as I understand Akaurls answer, it says, that if the majority prefers a certain region, game is commenced there. Given the numbers of US players, even in their own timeframe (I do play a lot in the night), I can’t deny that a lot of games happen still on EU/RU in US time, mostly because I still see a lot of EU/RU players hanging around in the queue, and very few US players.

I also can’t deny, that I play a lot more games on RU, than any other servers. Which comes from them having simply more players.

You could write a suggestion to modify this behaviour, so that if there is a close-to-tie situation between RU and US, you vote EU. However, given that I have 60-70 ping to RU, and 30-40 ping EU and 190-200 ping US usually, I guess most russians will still have a slight advantage. (they are not that far from the EU)

But there is also a suggestion around to make the prefered region into “prefered regions”, which would allow to select “US” and “EU” as preference e.g…

EU servers are still 120ms+ ping for me.  I’d hardly call that ideal.  It’d only favor EU players.

If you wanted fairness, South Asia sucks for probably 99% of players.

No, that option is for when the game loses focus. That is great and fine, but i want it that when im just fiddling around with my settings or equip ships, chatting, but still in the game itself the process should consume minimal resources.
