Whenever you cancel an assignment that has low rewards in the hope of getting another one with a bigger reward,you get another random mission,either better or worse.
Let’s take Federation as an example,you cancel a low-reward mission and you get Humanitarian Aid:if you don’t have a destroyer,a squad or an insane amount of luck then there is no way to do that mission by yourself.
So why not give us the option to select from 2 or 3 assignments and if none of them suits us then shuffle them,once or twice/day,thus the chances to get a good mission increases,its still random but at least we can choose form a wider variety.
Maybe even get different rewards,not only credits,synergy and monos,maybe for the more hardcore ones we can get even ship parts,or refined materials of high quality(Enriched Beryllium or Neodium Plates)giving not only the n00bs but also the vets reasons to keep doing the OS dailies.

I stopped doing the missions altogether simply because they are all insane and give crap rewards for the effort.
I’m going to be 100% honest with my reason to downvote this suggestion. There’s a reason you can now craft special ammunition, and there’s another reason gunships exist. 
You can’t craft the special ammunition. Depending on an unreliable source isn’t the meaning of you can do it.
We have in our plans to bring more differnt activities in OS, and when is will be enough, we may give the ability to chose between several tasks to the pilots. But it also required additional space on servers, so it won’t be in the near future.
Is one of these activities the deliver/bombing I suggested?
And how is such a change a problem for the servers? Do you use a rng to determine the mission?

It’s in) The free space on servers for data transfering is not endless, unfortunately. That’s the problem for all MMO’s which are old enough) We’re working on it, but we have to make sure that everything is okay with Autumn big update first.
Could you give out at least a list of things/ideas/suggestion/proposed things?

? Do you code models as transfer packets?! It’s relative easy to recode the server to give out 3 missions to choose from. And those 3 missions doesn’t need really transfer capacity. For being a one time request for each faction even that isn’t huge load on the servers.

Not yet, for now all personall are working under big Autumn update. So, I can’t say for sure what’s exactly can be done.

Our tech team strongly restricted designers with possible amount of new content for Autumn. That’s not exactly my department, so I just deliver you information from them about difficulties they may have.
