Yeah I had the same reaction ^^ It seems all you need to win is:
Step 1: own a destroyer or a new premium ship
Step 2: put a fancy paintjob on
Step 3: take a photo in a system with a nice skybox
Only first place is really deserved IMO. Another sign that this is becoming Fractured Space. Meh.
And for the people that undoubtedly will accuse me of being salty, it’s the truth. Too much emphasis is being put on destroyers, dumbing down the game.

I tried destroyers too.
I tried many different things, like a blackhole next to the anomaly in *insert PvP map name that I don’t remember*, or a gif where I shoot turrets (It looks so fun. I shoot a missile, then it shoot a missile too, and it’s a loop like this).
Anyway, at the exception of the 2nd (copy paste) and 4th results, I think all screenshots here are cool.

60% of the photos had destroyers…3 out of 5. IMO Sybil and invincible have one of the coolest models, reason why i used invicible (i dont have sybil)…i also considered using templar or inquisitor AE cause i really like their models too, but i chose lastly for invincible. Anyways, i just a visual thing. I personally think that a big ship looks better next to a landscape than a small ship (there are exceptions of course).

Awww i really made a big effort to take my SS: find a nice background, include large objects at different distances to make a nice scale and depth sensation, mind about the lightning and reflections (this was my main issue since lights from reflections require specific camera angles and ship position, so including everything in the shot was quite hard…i wanted to post a SS with the sun reflection in the window but didnt matched what i was looking for the rest), zooming in for a detailed view of the invincible and a different perception of the environment, and also look like i was doing something more besides than taking photo (like just warping out from the alien portal)…while i was looking for some “autumn” theme. I really like my pic, although i find that Xzerberus’s pic is amazing: the background aint original at all, but the ship orientation next to the sun, the flares covering the ship, the close up for the sybil, etc. made it look great. It looks like one of those news pics from the forum.
Also many thanks for giving me a place among the winners  this is the first event i get a reward xD

And the main idea about the pic was that the ship it looks like coming out of light speed ”)

Well, I didn’t use it for the contest because the quality is bad (low framerate make the animations a bit weird). So nothing beautiful.

What mill is trying to say here, is that out of 5 winners, 3 are destroyers, one is a premium ship (where he resubmitted his old screenshot that already won a contest, with some minor changes), and the last one is a dreadnought.
So he implies that this contest is more a commercial event then something fair and square.
Don’t take it like a criticism or something, but let’s be honest : JZELITE or Mill screenshot are much better then yours. Especially JZELITE’s, which represents perfectly the cold autumn IMO.
Even JaVi submitted nearly the same thing as you (same ship, same color, same map, same orientation, just a different position/zoom).

Thats what i sayed XD About the brokk one…well…xD i was surprised as well.
About mill’s SS, i find that the spot is nice, the position of the camera is nice, but something miss…the lightning is energyless and the colors are opaque, specially on styx. JZELITE’s pic is only showing the cool planet with its sun…theres no fancy placement or focus over the ship (its an interceptor far away…maybe it wouldve been better to use free view so the ship wouldnt appear at all), its simply there just cause, and theres almost no piece of the environment included in the shot. I see nothing special in that pic (sry if that offends, but im being honest). I dont know how a “cold autumn” is, since in my country the colors are mainly yellow (and i struggled a bit over that since i was seing mostly red…and i end up with red eventually). When you look at google all these pics gives you the “classical” autumn color palette:
I have to admit i got influenciated from JaVi’s pic…i had a SS i almost submit from eastern/western mining station (i get confused with which is which) which was much more closer to the color palette of a “warm” autumn, but i was not satisfied so i thought of other options. I came up with the “jupiter” in stripped deposits (as well with pandora anomaly and other options), but then i saw Javi’s pic, which i definately did not liked, but i remembered then flying not long ago in that map (i flied to the top of it just to look the entire planet and the asteroid in the middle) and the detail of the planet, so i went there to experiment…i took a lot of SS until i picked one which is the one i submitted. What i think that makes the difference between my pic and JaVi’s is that i was concerned on the lightning (JaVi’s destroyer looks quite flat on lightning) and the objects in the scene…i think my SS has more elements. And obiously my speech is in favour of my SS, i made it and i really like it (although i like Xzerberus more), i took my time to think and take the best possible SS i could came up with (which has the downside of stop being original if you take too long). Its also clear we all have different tastes.
Also i though you were going to be one of the winners…cause the gif is great. Here are some options i had to discard:
