in a nutshell, thats also the problem why the game is not moving up in the world
fear of losing income is losing income.
if its just a delay strategy to avoid free players to get new stuff to easily, as an income model, they could simply standardize it however…
no need to act as if customers are still people from 2001, and new to the internet
no need to constantly “hide this process” or put it behind the illusion, that non paying players can get the things; while the end result here is that even paying players cant get the stuff reliably.
like mwos model: half a year you can only buy new robots with money, then with premium currency, then with ingame currency; all is announced. impatient people or hardcore fans preorder, buy packs, or grind/buy premium currency with hardcore games to get the robos as early as possible; patient people just wait until the robo is released for credits.
like in the past:
remove rng item drop and create upgrades -> introduce upgrade pack drop and iridium
iridium into loot -> introcude monocrystals
monocrystals into loot -> introduce xenocrystals
xenocrystals into missions -> introduce crafting nodes
crafting nodes craftable through alien composites -> introduce noncraftable upgrade nodes
the big “evolution” of a standstill.
