Combat reconnaissance

I would like to see more of an incentive for people that like try to kill the opposing captain.

Currently, failed attempts gain nothing; while less active people accumulate steady points for sitting in spawn picking off the odd ship.

People that get in the range of the opposing captain should steadily build points as they attempt to take him down.

Since if neither captain dies it comes to kills, no, I’d rather not reward you for suicidally feeding the other team.

It is kind of lame that exactly one person gets the big points bonus for killing the captain though. Admittedly you get double points for assists on captains, but still, only one person gets the bumper 600 jackpot.

Well, as it stands ‘Combat reconnaissance’ has to be the most boring mode; reminds me of some people in counterstrike that would sit in one place with AWPs the whole round ( don’t know if they still do that haven’t played in years) anyway, I digress.

There needs to be some incentive to actually go for the win and not sit behind a bolder the entire game.

I love combat recon if i captain.

The battle fun half depend of captain ( ally and enemy) and half other player.

But i see the frigate bring less fun, if you don’t have player capable to focus kill.(T3)

Is winning not its own reward? If not then how about a 600 point bonus for landing the killing blow on the enemy captain?

I don’t really know why you’re asking to be rewarded for trying instead of succeeding. You don’t get points for trying to capture beacons, you get points for complete captures. You don’t get points for almost blowing up the enemy station, you get points for blowing it up.

The idea behind the request is to Shepard people into playing a more offensive manner, not because I happen to be lazy and want points for nothing.

I’d say 5% of the games I’ve played in this mode you could call exciting. and that’s down to people wanting to actually engage.

In it’s current state would you say it’s exciting?

I dunno what combat recon you’ve been playing, but for me since 0.8.0u3 it’s been a race to plasma arc the captain and is usually over in 2 minutes, so yes. Silly, but not lacking in excitement.

Not been my experience. it’s a slow boring Campfest with the odd fighter trying the tactics you mentioned then eventually giving up.

so true… unless both sides know how to (defend) captain. then it’s back to the waiting game. teamwork in recon gets put under the spotlight coz the focus is on that one ship - and if your team fails you get no where. individual effort rarely works out for the best and to me is what makes recon really unique.

cap surrounded by a ring of Guard + Engineers is near impossible to crack in pub matches tho…

This is particularly relevant with uncoordinated teams. Making solo attacks on the captain (and failing to land the kill) is an easy way to throw your own team into disarray, opening up opportunities for the opposing team to take advantage of the reduced number of players on the field.

Regarding the proposed incentive for offensive play, consider what happens when a team pushes forward together. If everyone was gaining points just for proximity to the captain, it would skew the scores for efficiency.

Yeah, but most captains stay hiding 1-6k behind the spawn…

I was captain in a t2 match last night, we lost… but… one member on our team, who decided at the end after i died that he would complain about Aces in interceptors as captain. To which my kind reply was… lets see you have 9 people locked on you for the last 3 minutes trying to kill you in a frigate and make it. He hushed after that.

Only reason i died was they killed all 3 of our healers at the same time rather than 1 at a time like they had been.

Indeed, no reason to reward people whom try to suicide attack enemy captain and FAIL in it, because it results:

a) enemy team getting more kills => your team loses

b) less defense on your captain => your team loses

Don’t read me wrong, making a coordinated (suicidal) attack (be it solo or team effort) on enemy captain is totally viable strategy. But no, no reward for failing in it, because the failing only gives advantage to the enemy team. If it is rewarded, everyone will just be doing solo suicide attacks on captains, as they in any case get rewarded. Would be boring and dull, takes away the strategic play.

I like smarter play.

who even says the captain needs to sit back at all some of the fastest and best games we have had are when the captain and the rest of our 4 man squad move in together and strategically take down there defenders and in many cases we have ended up with our own captain making the kill shot on the enemy captain this mode like all the modes in the game are reliant on team tactics in order to make them fun and interesting battles if you fine the mode boring then suggest moving in and call a strategic plan in game to the rest of your team then see what happens

too much posts. TL;DR

The games when captain sit back are indeed booring, and more often that not can lead to lose. Just pick your guard/command/ecm or whatever and go to front line fighting.(opinion)

As the captain does +75% more damage, it is a bit silly to just sit back behind a rock. But sure, that is one strategy. I prefer trying to assist with my improved damage every time I can, without being suicidal, without opening myself too much for enemy snipers / warp attacks.

As the captain does +75% more damage

we do ?

T3 captains rarely die. The plasma race is typical for T2.

we do ?

I did a checking around month ago, but couldn’t find any patchnotes or anything that could confirm that.

Regardless I know there was some sort of dmg boost, but was not sure about number, thought it was 50%.

Next time you’re the captain, mouse over the buff icons in the middle-upper area of your screen (use the key that gives you mouse cursor when alive, check the key from the key binding settings). One of the buffs you have only if you’re the captain (the icon has changed recently in some patch, not sure if also the effect?).

At least two days ago I recall checking it as being “+75% more damage on main weapons” (not the exact wording).

I like combat rec. Funny mode if you know how to xxxx-kick your team. If I’m not the cap, I try to buff my cap with my command ship and do the fast guard, at least together with one or two eng frigs.

If I’m the cap, I try to hide or to doing something stupid/surprising, if I have no guards/buffs or I’m fooling around like last round. Tried my gunship and earned the cap eat cap medal.

With guards you can virtually do everything. Sniping 4 example.
