Does anyone know how collision damage is calculated?
yes somewhat i guess, speed + object you hit = damage.
or… bump bump ouch…
What do you mean by “object you hit”?
I guess its calculated simply by speed or speed * ship wight const number, but then i scratch my head, because that would work for hitting static object. How to caculate collision dmg to diferent size ships coliding in different speed in collisions direction I have no idea. :dntknw:
And also is damage a flat number or % of ship hull?
I meant it as some items do more damage than others…
its the speed and the angle you are hitting the object, i think. if moving objects are calculated in another way i dont know but why should they calculate different?
hit an asteroid in a 90 degrees angle an look your hull shrinking
Well… to put this in perspective, let me describe the situation that prompted this question:
My team was supposed to head towards one of our team’s beacons because it was being captured. Upon nearing the beacon, however, I realized that my allies decided to meander off somewhere else (I assume they were chasing some intys). That left me to face the full wrath of the enemy force that was capturing our beacon.
A head-on collision with an asteroid is fatal, and for some reason a Jericho guard frigate was shooting at me while remaining perfectly still. There was no time to turn and warp away, so I decided to try my luck and ram the guard frigate. I figured I should be able to destroy it, seeing how collision damage bypasses shields (no T2 ship could benefit from the Jericho implant), and that Jericho ships generally had low hull strength. So I went ahead and my aim was great. My ship blew up (as expected), but my target was still alive, and the kill feed reported that he had killed me by ramming.
That’s why I’m wondering how collision damage is calculated, because I don’t get how he managed to survive my warp ramming.
perhaps he had a colision compensator… i do warp kills all the time. only things i cant kill like this are empire and fed frigs( to many hull points).

Ah… that makes sense.
Edit: does ramming deal kinetic damage?

it deals ramming damage, no particular damage type that you can block i believe(exept for the collision compensator)
How much does the rank 9 jericho implant help with collision damage? Ive been running an interceptor and I feel like I’m in a pinball machine sometimes.

not at all, it just makes the damage go into shield first and then hull instead of solely hull.

Hm, might be a tad useful for me then.

well I would love to answer that question.
In earlier time, warp ramming could be a very effective and hard to master skill to kill high amor target or even kill enemy captian when they were just spawned. Among those rammers, there was a pilot named “lightningx” who was the best of them at that time. pilots who played from before patch 7.2 may remember that lightningx was the last guy you want to meet on the other side in the battle of combat reconnaisence as he could warp ramming even the enemy captian was an interceptor.
And, lightningx was a friend of Error at that time, and according to his word that he rammed Error more than 10 times by warp jumping. Finally Error made this personal and managed to make a new rule that the one being rammed by warping (from intercepor) would take 0 damage, but the rammer would die instantly.
And another story between them is about the nerfing of suicide module.
But you know over a time these kind of legends got really twisted eh?

I have a mental image of this situation: many years down the road when the game takes off and becomes a classic, this story will be told by a veteran who took part in the beta to a bright-eyed new player.
If warp ramming does no damage to the enemy, then I am greatly saddened.
