Coil Mortar Vs Attack Drones [F]

Hey there, I have been playing around with my T3 Frigate and I noticed that the proximity detonation of the Coil Mortar projectile doesn’t activate when fired at enemy Attack Drones, is this intended? 

 

The only way to hit them seems to be direct impact, and the weapon is reasonably inaccurate.

 

Or it could be my lack of aiming skill, but has anyone else noticed this? 

Nope, it’s not lack of aiming, the Attack Drones hitbox is pretty wreid, even at close range with lazors it’s hard to deal damage to them.

Use them in PvE.

This. I find that the drones are next to impossible to hit except from 0m away while they’re moving. Once they sit still it’s ok though.

Shrapnel works well, because the spread’s so high…

Use them in PvE.

I wonder…Blackwood shipyard, could you get 10+ drones there with a T5 engi? :smiley:

This. I find that the drones are next to impossible to hit except from 0m away while they’re moving. Once they sit still it’s ok though.

 

Yep. I agree that you shouldn’t be able to 1 shot them or so because they would be useless, but at this moment they are so hard to hit that they can be easily the biggest scource of power in long range battles, when you have drones for 2 guys shoting 700-900 damage per hit you know you will have problems.

With a terrible team, sure. But easier in the other missions because of more bots to shoot to reduce your cooldown.

He had drones on a faster ship. My elephant with torps strapped on.

 

All I can say is it would’ve been a one sided affair had he not have drones to balance the duel. If the drones were easily destroyed it’d be no good.

 

Right after that game I joined in on a corp PVE squad where 2 of us used drones and I got to see it in action properly. Right now - I’m rather convinced they’re good alternatives to torpedoes or volley missiles as they bring something new to the table in terms of function. In corp squads where Torps are used for self-defense I think I can afford to bring drones instead given the right combinations already in place.

Jericho LRF deals with drones rather easily though via guided torps. Just like every missile one-shots them. On the other hand, if you accumulated enough of them and hid them well you can one-shot unaware opponents yourself.

It’s a DPS consideration. I’d be wasting my damage dealer taking out drones rather than hulls. But if I don’t deal with them I’ll be forced to absorb damage. Not to mention those suckers tail me so close I’d damage myself taking them out. Rather interesting piece of kit IMO.

Combat Recon - engineers spamming enemy captains with drones hmmm…

Unless you’re fighting R13+ where they can basically spam drones faster than you can kill them it’s always a good idea to focus on the drones first, knowing that it’ll take the enemy engineer up to three and a half minutes to respawn them. That’s well worth one torp, don’t be selfish.

As to combat recon: Sitting there with 10 drones defending your captain you’ll be one-shotting incoming interceptors (if the enemy is dumb and does not focus your drones - but most of them are dumb so it works, did it all the time when still having an engineer slotted). 9000 dps on your attack drones plus whatever your combat drones do? Yummy. You don’t get “hands free” medals for attack drone kills btw.

how do those work exactly? I’m not in T5 yet so I dunno what’s going on with actives but I’ve been seeing some crazy sh*t happening whenever one makes it down in a T4 battle.

Imperial R13 implant speeds up the drone/missile reload by 20% for every kill. The faster you kill the enemies the faster your drone army grows. Assists count.

Then what the hell are we doing in T3 / T4 … move yer xxxx up!

The missile-reload(the 180 one, not the short one) also gets reduced by the R13 implant.

Not sure about Blackwood… in a T2 Hidden Maintenance Shop game, I managed to gather an army of 5 drones on my Hydra 2. And that was when my team was actively pounding the missile turrets. Imagine if we all flew engies, and turtled.

use T5(R13 empire implant) and you can spawn 2 every minute and less… :smiley:

This is for bug reporting, not discussion. Dev’s are also already aware of this problem last I checked and multiple drones should not be capable, though they are still a pain to try to hit for most people, I dont see it, I hit them easily.
