Bug report: High latency & Packet Loss

This relates to the high latency and packet loss that various players are suffering from. I’ve done as much research as I can to try and troubleshoot the issue.

High latency and packet loss is occurring almost constantly, and there are many players suffering from the same issue. Sometimes a player might get a couple of games before losing connection and disconnecting, in other instances players have trouble logging in to the server.

In trying to resolve the issue, I’ve checked all ports on my local network, and tested them over the internet (see image). I have un-installed and re-installed the game. I have tested my internet speed & latency over the internet, to European and American servers. I have also reset the routers on my local network multiple times, my system has been reset multiple times. This has ruled out any particular cause from the client side of the game.

While the error is occurring, the launcher still states the network is OK, and the server list is retrieved on initial login. If a player disconnects during attempted game play, the login screen states the server is an unknown version.

My system is running the following specifications:

ASUS P5N32-E SLi Plus with on board High Definition Audio

Intel Core i3 @ 3.10GHz

4.00 GB Nvidia RAM

ASUS GeForce 750 GTX 1GB

Windows Vista 32 bit

Direct X11

DXDiag returns 0 errors or conflicts.

My initial thoughts revolve around the node01av being offline, and also the recent update to the matchmaking, which throws errors around in the game log.

I’ve been unable to pin point the cause for this, which does annoy me, but as the game log throws up warnings on the matchmaking strings and frame-time, this does concern me, as does node01av being unreachable in the connection test.

A lot of players have issues for sure, I never seem to get any packet loss, and I am in North america.

I get it too, but when i do, it’s my internet now. Didn’t used to be however.

I am currently chaging my ISP at my house for the packet loss issue in this game. Really my family can not even watch netflix without it pausing… Getting an awsome 1 down .25 up with the current ISP.

I have a store, and have 0 packet loss here in game. Though the system at my store is Windows7.

My system at home is very simular to yours.

I report back on if packet loss changes with the ISP.

Also, it was my understanding that the match maker issue was fixed on some midnight patching just after 1.0. I am now intrested to looking though my log. Never will have time to though.

It would be a big help to see some of the junk in the event log.

I am still planning to report back with my change of ISP and if it affects this game. Given that we are both using vista there may be something in the way of network stack usage vs 7-8. It helps that I have two systems I play the game with at two locations…

I am not sure where is the correct place to report this. There is a very noticeable lag in this game when I am playing on servers others than the US. This affects the game dramatically. The controls and movement on my ships lags so much that I end up loosing control of it and crashing many times. It is hard to control interceptors and hard to shoot other interceptors when I am playing in a foreign server in PVP mode. This is very unfair. If I choose my region location for battles - USA, it will still put me in a game server abroad. This should be changed. If players choose to play in any server, then it should only be if they choose “Any region”. If I choose “USA”, then I should only be queued for USA regions. Developers, PLEASE fix this. This is my only complaint with this game.

Could you please go to the Star Conflict folder in Programs x86, then go to the con_tester folder, then run the ConnectionTester.exe as admin. And using an spoiler tag ([spoiler] [/spoiler] (without the blank spaces)) paste the conntest.txt that will appear in your con_tester folder?

I have packet loss lately in russian servers (from 5% to 20% i didnt have this problem before)…ping remains the same (average: 260). I live in south america (therefore USA servers works best for me, with 145 ping average, no loss).

I’m experiencing sever lag issue and pkg loss since last week. Never had this before and my internet connection works smooth with everything else.

Russian server seems fine but there’s one of the European server that is completely messed up for me. Also Us server are a nightmare.

My ISP switched me to a new low latency receiver and a direct fiber back connection.

My ping to google is 15ms.

My ping to all the SC servers is less than 200. 200 of course being the cut off point.

US server is less than 50 at all times.

I was having some packet loss issues in the game.

I replaced my router.

I no longer have any issues. 0 packet loss. While my kids watch netflix. No ping over 200 even to Russia.

My cable connection here at my shop still has issues. Though I host servers and have free wifi. Different networks of course.

My best suggestion is to connect direct without a router, see if that makes a difference. Temp for testing of course. Also I realize not all connections allow you to connect without a router.

I havent changed my internet provider and i havent been notified of any change from the service (i havent noticed one either). Im connected to the modem by cable (not wifi) and my only issue is with SC russian servers (theres one in wich i dont have packet loss and fewer ping). South Assia servers have higher ping but 0% loss, my connection in other games is perfect, im 100% sure its a problem related with SC servers even more since several patches ago i had no loss in any SC server.

I am requesting that there should be an option in the game so that I can connect only to the region I specify, such as “USA” or “Europe”. As it is now when I chose a region, it will still put me in any region if I wait longer than two minutes. There should be a way to lock the settings to my specific region so that I will only go into a game in my region regardless of the wait time.
