Beginner Protection in Open Space

Since all the newcomers (by newcomers i mean players up to rank 3) ask about free roam mode and stuff about it, why not introduce some sort of protection for them against other players in OS until they reach a certain rank or exp.

Also, Open Space deserves a nice launch button like pvp, pve, coop, and others have and not just Undock.

Have you ever heard of station protection?

It doesn’t apply to all of the sectors and sometimes they might want to explore the dangerous zones.

It doesn’t apply to all of the sectors and sometimes they might want to explore the dangerous zones.

If they want to do that then they deserve to die if they can’t handle a dangerous sector.

Let me elaborate before more sarcasm cluster bombs fall. There’s a rank requirement for newcomers to unlock open space, instead of that, let them have an advanced station protection so they can simultaneously explore pvp, pve and open space. Its a minor thing but too many questions like “the game is cool but does it have free roam?” or “i wish it had free roam mode” etc

It’s just for the showcase anyway, not like they can do something in OS in T1 ships but them knowing there’s a mode like that is the point of my suggestion.

I would re-frame my answer to them: Yes , there is free roam right from the start, and when you advance and get up the ranks you can even roam the more dangerous sectors, where fewer police forces give you protection, and more and more pirates and aliens appear and make it a challenge to survive … but there are rewards in dangerous sectors, too: blue prints, rare ores, etc.

This would give incentive to stay in the game and level up ships and so forth. Otherwise, I fear, they would free roam in rank1 ships and see there is nothing much to do in Open Space, and would rant about it and leave the game before they even got to know its inner beauty?

Just for the showcase: free roam in station protected sectors plus the challenge of dangerous sectors makes imho more sense.

The game has 3 main modes but shown 2 at the start, show the third one to the audience too and thats all there is, the rank requirements to enter other sectors are there to show them what they have to achieve to see whats behind the jump gate.

tbh I really think Station Protection is already too much.

In many cases it prevents the real “star conflict”.

I would totally vote for all on or all off protection or karma dependent, like karma 5 protects u everywhere, except alien places. Would make sense to me but this topic is solely for the beginners to equally try out all 3 main modes.

There are up to R10 sectors with station protection (not sure if they changed it, but water harvest/terramorphing station/scrapyard have been R10 for a long time while also offering station protection), theres no reason to expand furthermore the protection, specially since players that reach these sectors are no longer begginers. Also making a “full station protection” would make pirating completely useless, because all those players looking to not PVP would always carry it on (i would so i safely get the best loot from mysterious containers in dangerous sectors), so “pirate players” would literally have no one to fight, making OS even more boring that it already is. Dont remove one of the features of the mode.

PD: i dont like pirating, but i enjoy from time to time recieving some action thx to an attacking player.

About the “Undock” icon, idk whats wrong with it: its quite big, has a nice picture and a very descriptive title. What else do you want? put it on the center?

Guys, its meant for newcomers up to rank 3 max. what are you even talking about? r10 sectors?

sry you didnt made it clear at the beginning (i suggest adding it to the first post). Also, can R1-3 ships undock? (without unlocking any further rank) Anyway, most of the R1 sectors have station protection, and the ones that dont make clear its a dangerous zone…

Im not sure, some things changed, new players need to reach like r3 or r6 to unlock the undocking option which is not showing much in the first place. Open space as an addition to other modes would mean much more in terms of gathering more players for the game.

We’ve station protection system. To explore dangerous zones is a pretty dangerous task, they should be ready. We will not planning to separate OS expirience for newcomers and vets.

Just for the info, do newcomers have instant access to open space or do they need a specific rank to unlock it?

Yes! Rank 1 ships ‘unlock’  “Minimum ship rank: 1” sectors (at least in default ‘station protection mode’).

Each ship has to unlock any open space warp gate. There are :

*“Minimum ship rank: 1” sectors

*“Minimum ship rank: 7” sectors

*“Minimum ship rank: 10” sectors …

Since everyone starts with a rank 1 ship, this is perfectly fine to use the many warp gates for “Minimum ship rank: 1” sectors to roam open space …

Rank 6 of any faction unlocks the undock option

For a moment there i though i might have posted the wrong topic lol

Rank 6 is a bit far for new players to unlock something they can’t see or don’t know exists.

And how do you think it ‘improve’ the situation of a newbie by getting eaten alive from the aliens/pirates?

Every multiplayer game has some kind of a beginners protection that lets them explore for a bit until they reach the limit of it by progressing in game, which is really fast in most cases but helpful in terms of new players knowing the games content early on. I’m surprised nobody gets my drift here, the idea is pretty common in the gaming world.
