I think he was talking about Gauss.
I can’t think in a worst weapon for a gunship. Except if you play a gunship like a turret close to an ally engi. And even then, lasers are way better hitting anything except very fast interceptors.

Yep i was thinking about Gauss, the name slipped my mind. And it worked quite good for me last night. As i said, click click click spam fire, not charged fire. + Overdrive when you need it and it shoots as an unmodified Assault Rail. That is quite fast for the damage it does.

I got a bad mouse, I’m unable to keep lasers on target. Gauss is easy to hit with.

I works better on a tackler, with damage boost for a massive alpha strike.
I tried and tried using Gauss on Gunship but I don’t find it any good. If you want to do the long range snipe playing take a Tackler, who is not supposed to be in the front line, or a Command, and support your allies from the distance. But IMO on a Gunship is a blasphemy, the fire power is not enough to deal with other decent Gunships or Frigates, it will only give you kills if you fit on the porrly fitted interceptors and fighters. I find Rails (Emp) and Bubbles (Fed) much more effective and funny for a Gunship.
I think something was lost in translation; i mentioned somewhere that it’s not a sniper build, it’s a medium/melee build with RoF, crit, and 1 accuracy mod to compensate for the RoF ammo. Works quite well in T4 on Orelus.

Even with RoF ammo Gauss has the best accuracy in the game, using infrared with Gauss is just wasting a mod, you won’t miss a single shot because of the spread but because of a poor aim.

I’ll have to agree with this one.
What ?! The gauss on a gunship is the best weapon you can mount on it, you can 2 shot interceptor (without emergency barrier) and deal incredible dmg per shot if your using a critical hit build + critical dmg. I always come out on top in almost every games for dmg done per battle (anywhere from 150k to 300k) and almost always have the most kill. Its all about how you manage your energy and how you handle the gauss and what module you equip. This is a perfect example of what I am talking about:

Or even this for that matter:

Its either, your build is wrong or the gauss is simply not your weapon type, like bubble gun is for me…

Nope nope and nope. As I said Gauss is good for killing poorly fitted ships, I suggest you to go to Sector Conquest and try to kill anyone with a properly fitted ship, you will cry tears of joy if you can deal more than 600 damage to anyone. As me you will end facing the sad true. Huge hulls, huge resists + Aura’s Coating Polarizer (45.5 hull resist) + Naga heals + Armadillo and a long etc
In T3 with the OP DE against Phobos, Acid Hydra, Diamond Dwarf, Kite, Wolf, Katana, Anaconda and Ricasso (examples of ships from your enemies in that game) you are ofc going to kill people and be top efficiency, but that doesn’t mean the weapon is good for Gunships, and the best? XD well just discover it yourself.
Gunships have to be in front of the battle with their insane firepower, using a ranged wapon on them is kind of lame it would make more sense (imo) to use a Tackler, because Tacklers can’t tank the damage a Gunship can tank.

Hei maybe you’re right for sector conquest and stuff but i don’t do that, was just saying i found a fun build last night. In randoms of course. Also, i was talking about an Orelus build ( ship gives you + 10% crit, + 15% damage) and the damage is quite nice. Bubble, i can’t stand it, it’s good for melee but it’s not viable for me in medium range, i can’t aim at anything farther than my nose :). I played a lot with Assault Railguns, and that’s quite nice as well, but to be melee in random fights in a slow ship is not very effective, perhaps in a wing that would fare better. At the moment, this Gauss (i stress again, medium engagement range, 4.25k max range) build is doing surprisingly good in randoms.

But rails are good for close combat too, while Gauss at close combat is almost a sure death unless you have support. Anyway yes, you can keep using it versus randoms of course, but the moment you see a 4 man squad in the enemy team what are you going to do?
The Orelus is a copy of the Desert Eagle for T4, Im using the same build on it and its as much effective. Resi, Im almost always at the front line, anyone playing with me know this, Its just that I know when to GTFO :Dwop

well to be fair, this one is your personal record and hardly average game, and it is a 12 min detonation vs mostly r7-8 ships
unfortunately i just installed latest Snibs tool version, so i only now start to “archive” older logs, but if you still have them, all games where i play Sigurdr vs your DE, if my team is doing terribly and overwhelmed, I am doing at-least the same dmg as you, where it is more even or on our side, total dmg difference is through the roof. My point is that what you are doing on battlefield in a gunship is done much better in a positron LRF

Your right about that being my record, its exactly why I posted it to back my point. I also posted a screen shot of the log so that you can have a look at my average stats battle for 19 games that night: 14.5 average kills per game and 124k dmg average per game and 1.95 objective per game… so people saying or thinking I only go for easy kill or finish off almost dead opponent instead of doing objective will think twice before posting non sense :taunt:
Your probably right about frigate being more effective (at a longer range tho) but unfortunately, frigate are not my type of ship. I can play them, but cant really be as effective, too slow and not enough rotation speed to my taste. I can make my DE go as fast as 619m/s by using overdrive with the module that increase speed (sorry forget the name of it) for 12 sec which allow me to go from objective to another objective surprisingly fast. There is just no way I am gonna do that with a frigate.
I have seen damage of 1200 from a t4 mk2 gauss in sector conquest, though admittedly it was with tp as i was using a tackler.
I use beams on my gunship because they make inty pilots visibly upset that you’re using a noskill weapon. I also like that i don’t need to lock people to use them which means i can be sneaky vs people with lockback enabled. Although if i had a fed gunship i’d probably use bubbles or rails since they have the speed to screw with frigates at closer ranges
I don’t really like Bubbles on a gunship. For me this weapons seems to fit only those fast tanky commands (Like my sweet Prom X). Empire gunship are too slow for them and not enough tanky to risk a face to face. My choice will be the Railgun : Nice damages, range, RoF, and projectiles speed. Haven’t tried Fed’s gunship anyway.
Well in fact its much harder to take down an Empire Gunship than an Empire Command, Phase Shield included. Also Gunships are faster on Overdrive than Commands so Singularity would fit Gunships according to your description because they are fast and tanky.
