There’s light at the end of the tunnel guys. I myself was even convinced that the sniper frigate (which I mainly pilot) was over powered for awhile. I am still pretty sure that the devs are going to make some changes to this class of ship, however I wanted to say that it seems that these ships are less powerful at higher levels. This seems to be because
A) Interceptors are playing smarter. Not flying out in the open when there’s a lazer beam on them, using cover, and making sure to get behind/under frigates when engaging up close, avoiding mine fields, etc.
B) Ships can get more tanky at higher tiers, meaning they can survive more sniper shots.
Those two things combined have made me realize that these ships were more OP when a lot of us were new players, and at lower tiers when damage/health ratios were scaled more in favor of damage.

Yup. You might rage at the lower tier battles, but fact is it is actually a slight pro, it forces you to adapt and avoid them. I still believe the tier 1 needs a slight nerf, either damage or projectile speed.

I Said it time a lot of times on the other thread. The DPS of a sniper ability tier 4 is around 1500 DPS which is crap compared to heavy lasers, even tier 3 heavy lasers on a frigate are doing way more damage than the sniper ability of the Tier 4 frigates.
They are only a problem for “nubs” who don’t want to improve their gameplay and just cry. No problem in them being new and inexperienced (I am myself a nub) but the sniper ability itself is not OP. It is in tier 1 and not anymore in T2. Pilots just have to learn to avoid them, to avoid flying straight, and to find cover. They also should learn to wathc for the red beam in order to locate the sniper.
All in all if someone is killed by a sniper it’s his own fault for making himself an easy target…
An imbalanced ability that’s underpowered is just a much a problem as one that is overpowered. If it feels underutilized because of being easily outclassed then it needs a change to become useful.
And people can only learn if they can parse the information coming at them. If all they see is themselves being tagged as if out of nowhere, that’s not a learning experience.

It is not outclassed at all. It is still in use for longrange harassment for example, or to force people to get to cover and stop firing at your teammates.
Like I already said several times now, it is not your main damage dealing weapon. It would be underpowered or underclassed if it was the main damage weapon. But it is not. That’s why people do not use them much. It s a situationnal weapon added to your arsenal.
People need to stop thinking that the Empire frigates are only capable of using that sniper ability. That’s just a side weapon. And as such, perfectly fits its role right now in higher tiers… It just gives you a low DPS longrange alternative to your higher DPS main set of weaponry…
And his curse to use it maybe low, but not lower than any other weapon in the game. No problem there too.

In Tier4 all fights happens around at 5000-6000+ range. The sniping ability allow the frig to have a great switch for very long range and use powerful mid/long range laser [or any other weapon] while the fed frig for example has to maximise and optimize its main weap range to the detriments of others mods since their ability (the drones) is half as useless at that range. The jericho one is in a better state because their bombs still deals damages but unlike the sniper you actually need to put a long time controlling the missile and lose your ship direct awareness at the same times so it’s still subpar to the empire frig.
Yes, the sniper is less used at T4 but those frig are still ahead of the two others in that department. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s OP at T4 either, it’s just an additional versatility tool. Anyway T4 fights are boring for the most part so I’d rather play T2 where the game is more balanced and dynamic
