Are there levels? (I'm new...)

I’m new to this game, loving it so far! I had a question: are there ranks/levels in this game that can be passed through by gaining experience? If so is there a maximum rank/level? Also do we unlock ships by doing whatever, or do we have to buy ships?

Welcome to Star Conflict!

to answer you question, yes there are ranks and levels, many of the things are referred to as “levels/ranks” but they may be quite different

For starters, your ship has rank and levels.

Rank of a ship can be thought of as “how far down the tech tree this is”, denoted by the number on the upper right(left?) corner of the ship icon in hangar. Ships in this game range from R1-17, and apart from a selected few, a ship’s rank cannot be changed. Higher rank ships have higher stats and more modules, but also compete with harder difficulty enemies in PvE and against similar rank opponents in PvP.

Level of the ship is how much experience it has gained. Gain exp via any game mode, and you can level up the ship. Levelling up slightly increase some stats of the ship, but more importantly unlock additional bonuses. Most ships have bonuses unlocked upon buying, and further bonuses to be unlocked by reaching level 2/4/6/8 on the ship. Levelling a ship to its maximum possible level would double its exp gain (which can be extracted using money to be used on any other ships)

Next up is module level.

Each module can have different qualities, from lowest to highest: white (lv1), green (lv2), blue (lv3), purple (lv4), orange (lv5).

Most modules only upgrade to purple lv4. All orange lv5 upgrades require blueprints to be obtained/bought.

with each increase in Level, the effectiveness of the module increases. The increase is not linear, purple to orange usually offer the lowest increase of all upgrades.

Upgrading require only credits, which you can gain from any mode, but mostly from PvE missions.

Keep in mind each module only fits a range of ship Ranks. if you have a module for R7-9 but is using a R10 ship, you have to get a higher rank version of the module R10-13. The level (Colour) of the lower rank modules do not carry over to higher rank versions

The pilot has “levels” of clearance that open up new sectors and maps to play in, as well as new ships and areas of the game.

Each ship has “levels” of experience  which give bonuses to ship performance that are increased by flying that ship. Ships also come in “ranks” from 1-17 but that only tells you what modifications and weapons you are able to use on it.

Most ships are bought using credits, but during events it is possible to unlock rare ships by doing missions. (typically only if you are above a certain rank though. Usually 15.)

And next, you have the Clearance Level, or character level. This is shown on the upper right corner of the screen, just next to your profile icon, there is this Har that can be filled up.

To fill up the bar, simply level up any module or ship. Each level on a ship provides, if memory serves, +20. Obtaining a new white module gives +5, level up to green for another +10, to blue +15, to purple +20 and to orange +25. Remember only the FIRST time you level up counts towards the bar. If you have a white version of a purple module (of the same rank), levelling up to green will NOT give exp.

Filling up the exp bar will unlock campaign missions. These usually provide good materials that otherwise has to be manufactured (quite difficult for new players).

Once the bar is filled, a Level Up Mission becomes available. Once done, your Clearance Level will +1.

This unlocks access to new ranks of ships, unlocks new locations in Open Space, and at certain levels will give you access to daily missions for specific ship resources and blueprint caches.

Thank you so much! I read them all. So is there a maximum clearance level? (The clearance level is basically, YOUR level as player, right?)

Max is 25, at least currently.

You unlock all the Open Space locations and ships by 16/15 I think.
