or are they horribly outmatched by everything as I remember?
Horribly outmatched? Not really. With some decent level of skill, they’re not too shabby as gunships. Besides, you can lure enemies into locking on to you, then retaliate with IR pulsar. Guided torp also works well on a gunship style LRF, since you can shoot from behind cover and maintain pressure on the enemy position.
It can be fun, but not something to really depend on.
Using any LRF as Gunships is a massive load of fun. COIL MACHINE GUN!! Yanno… for around 6 shots… The added Torpedo can be an asset if you coordinate against an enemy team to trigger their Guards’ AMS.
However, the Torpedo has been rendered useless, so…
Aaah my favorite class… Heavy gunship it will NEVER BE … The surviability rating in T2 you might get it to 28-29K in T3 you can stretch it to 40K.
As a frigate you missing too much defensive weapons to be out there. Nothing like the guards… no drones like the engineers. It is a big boat with VERY slow rotation.
Hiding is your best asset - stay LOW and constantly be observent of that radar screen. The moment you see red… you need to be out of guiding that torpedo and back into your ship.
LOL IR pulsar only works if they lock on to you… might work to prevent Snipers from locking on… but even then…as a SNIPER I can still get you anyway IMO it is terrible for a Jericho LRFs as it is a BULLS EYE TARGET… HERE I AM SIGN.
You only can carry 2 mines or 3 missiles… that is NOT enough protection in T3 as most tacklers and Gunships can tank the first…
3 hits from a SNIPER you toast… a “GOOD” inti pilot can take you down in less that 5 secs… ( the numbers are growing but for now it is not overwhelming) :taunt:
I look at the Jericho LRF as a support\last line defense of the beacons. Support my team …when incoming ships are closing or at the our beacons.
If I am in a squad… I am protecting my squad mate(s) I am yelling INCOMING :Dwop
Other words if you VENTURE OUT to the front lines in a Jericho LRF … do it carefully and only when it is benifical strategically.
Ira Deus and further - possibly fun
All before it - don’t even think about it
Jericho LRFs are rather squishy to lead an assault. Empire LRFs are more viable for that
That potential 140 rounds per minute for coil mortar is fun, even if you’re better off with shape charged shells. It needs a little more survivability potential at least for the Templar AE, it can’t tank enough for a slow frigate. I’m working on getting the Ira Deus but it’s not the best ship for most situations. It’s tricky attempting a gunboat. Empire wins hands down on damage and kills, but Jericho does technically have two missile slots. Neither one is going to be capturing beacons.
don’t imperial ones have better blind spot coverage?
If you have to deal with blind spot coverage in a frigate, it becomes either teamwork(i.e. your team saving your xxxx), or survivability.
your team saving your xxxx
That never happens though, ever. The only time my teammates save my xxxx is when they are my squadmates
And that’s why I favor survivability in a frigate, and fighter, and interceptor…

Survivability is a mere number. without team cover you are dead meat. On interceptor though? favor speed and maneuverability on an interceptor

in other words go fed

It does depend on the interceptor and play style. Tanky support ECM’s are good. Fed interceptors are better a little paper thin.
