Hey there,
That’s a really interesting post you made. I think you got a wrong idea about the corporations in the game but I still understand the preconceptions you might have.
It is not like you have to grind yourself to boost any corps rating or something like that. It is mostly very relaxed and it makes finding people for squading much easier than posting on forums. There is always someone hanging around in corporation chat looking for others to fly with, which makes grouping quick and efficient.
The thing is, we humans are social beings. We don’t like to be alone (even in a multiplayer game) and we possess this flock behavior that subconsciously makes us want to be a part of a group rather than wandering alone, and we really like to gather together. Even if the group may be going down the wrong path, we usually still keep following it rather than breaking off, because, well… all those people surely have the right idea, so I better just do what they do, and it’ll all be fine! Sounds familiar?
And the other thing that is very deep in our human nature is competition and constant thriving to improve ourselves and be better than the rest of the herd, a form of self achievement and esteem. Because if you get good, someday it might be you, that, well… leads the herd? And others follow you, looking for direction. That is a huge ego boost, and we cannot deny that we like that, because it does make you feel better on the insides. And can further motivate you to, well… be even better.
This might all sound very funny now, but this is basic fundamentals on how we function. Sure, noone doesn’t want to be bossed around. Most of us do like to freely follow someone or something of our choosing, or pursue a certain goal, so we have a sense of direction. I can guarantee you that bossing around will not happen in majority of corporations in this game. People are just looking for company and some grouping to ease up their progress.
But some people may prefer being a type of an outlaw biker, you know. Be for themselves, take care of their own business and manage everything fully by themselves, be completely “free”, altough being a part of any corp is not taking anything away from your freedom. But some people really enjoy that, and I respect that. So if you really have fun doing this, that is ok as well. I just don’t want you to have the wrong idea, corps have never been a bad thing around here (might have been in some other mmos tough, but not here).
The only thing that may be required in some corps are certain win ratio, statistics and activity but those are a few elite only anyway, for those that want to be a part of that kind of a thing. In most cases, a lot of corps will be very happy to just have you along, no matter how active you are and how good you may or not be, as long as you are a decent pilot and a nice person to hang around with. You will only find friends and groups much easier and faster. Also, you will learn faster and get better tips faster and your questions will be answered politely in corp chat, which is much more useful compared to the global chat spam.
No bossing around, just benefits, and you will not regret it. For that I give you my word.
