Discussion of the day:
Avatar, The legend of Korra and Korra II: anime or not?
Obviously a western type of animation, and not your typical japanese anime that we are discussing here.
Even tough the setting seems to be happening in Japan, it is of no significance, since both character drawing style and production itself are completely western style. At the first look on the characters with pronounced noses and small eyes, you immidiately know that this is not your typical japanese anime. There is also lack of other visual tropes that are essential for japanese anime, and as such does not leave much to be compared with.
But one would argue that Berserk does not have a typical anime character drawing style as well, and looks western too. Well, it does, but it has so many other visual ropes and animation styles that are simoblyic for anime, it is a real anime because of it.
Just if you take a quick look at ep2 of Berserk from minutes 2-4 and compare it to Avatar, you will both see and feel noticable differences:

So as such, I do not consider Avatar as a real anime, but it is anime-ifnluenced animation at most. Altough animation quality and story seem to be great, I could not make myself watch it due to lack of japanese dub and missing visual tropes that I like in japanese anime.
Well, the first avatar (cartoon?) the story is really great, but they could sum it all up in maybe MAXIMUM 2 books (seasons, whatever they divided that). The Korra one, also could have some cuts, but the story is very good too. I find fights in avatar very nice, specially when compared to DCs and Marvels cartoon, where fighting is a mess.*
*AKA Fake as hell. Like if lex luthor is building a machine to destroy something, he goes there in person, gets kriptonited to hell, for only then some thing to happen, and he ends up kiking luthor’s xxxx and destroying the machine. Wouldnt it be easier if he just went into orbit, and laser-eye the thing to hell? And Then make a supersonic dive, stop 1 milisec before grabbing luthors neck, and haul him to jail? Or perhaps laser-eye the kriptonite luthor is carring to make it evaporate, wait some mins to dissipate while laser-eyeing everything that luthor uses to escape, and then haul his xxxx?
I mean, even with his clear vulnerability, he could be still unbeatable, but some eletric shock seems to stun superman and causes him to have intense pain??? wth? so a taser would be even more frightening to him than kriptonite.
At least in avatar, usually the character uses his strenght, gets banged, and activate mode ubber and crush everything every now and then.

Mobile Suit Gundam UC Unicorn Episode 7 (1st Trailer)
I’m pretty sure some of you guys know about these upcoming Gundam releases already (these trailers are already days old). If not, then here you are.
Personally, I’m looking forward to G-Reco, because Tomino’s at the helm once again, after a long time.
++Thought of the Day: Hype is the first step on the road to disappointment.++
Considering most of these are still far away until they will be on blu-ray, are there any other noteworthy Gundam I might have missed after MSG SEED and MSG SEED: Destiny? The condition being, they are available in HD and were, well, decent (even Destiny was a meh sequel, would have been better they didn’t even make it).

Gundam OO. I can’t really say if Gundam Age is good. It seemed forgettable.
I think the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Wing are getting the HD treatment, if that interests you.
A remastered HD version of an older classic would be always welcome, the SEED was done very well and they put a lot more detail into it rather than just upscaling the resolution. And not just making the characters and backgrounds look nicer, they even went so far to rework some of the fighting scenes and animation, which was a really cool addition. So if the originals would be remastered the same way with this amount of detail, than this would definetely be very interesting to see. Any ETA on the MGS and Wing HD yet?
And of course, who would overlook Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin? Mahahah.
Be sure to turn off captions.
Yeah, that is a well known blockbuster allright.
Still like to discuss and discover less known hidden gems, like Kokoro Connect for example (thank you residente for recommendation)
I have not watched many slice of life anime before, but I am getting more and more into them, and this one was by far the most touching and enjoyable I have seen. The viewer connection with the characters goes really deep, and there’s plenty of emotional and plot twists that will make you laugh, cry, or scream at the screen. Sometimes all at the same time. I don’t give many 10/10 ratings, and I think this anime even surpassed Haruhi Suzumya in terms of enjoyment, development and story. Yes, Haruhi may had even more polished animation and unique setting, but overall I just enjoyed this a bit more. It’s one of those that will keep you thinking about it for many days later after you’ve done watching it.
Look up “Chrome Shelled Regios”

This is one of my few favorites that actually was really fun to watch.
And of course SAO. That was one of the few anime that I watched the entire season in one go. I couldnt stop watching. Needless to say I didnt sleep for 48 hours.
Noteworthy to mention is Chrno Crusade, Very good anime with a good soundtrack.

…I appear to have been misinformed. Need to work on my info-lurking skills.
According to this discussion, remasters already exist for numerous Gundam series. On the other hand, MSG is indeed going to get the HD treatment:Good luck reading Japanese. EDIT: I can see a date, looks like it airs April 7 this year.

Sorry for the typo in the title, edited.
