Is there really any way the Anaconda could be preferred? Styx just seems to be overwhelmingly superior.
I would like to know too.
No.
The Valor in some enviroments is better than the Styx and viceversa. But Anaconda is just weak (IMO)

Agree completely. I will almost always take the Valor first but never Anaconda over the Styx.
Valor is (un?)fortunately a tiny bit better than the Anaconda (but i prefer valor over the styx)
However, as the Reaper can be fun even if the Anaconda-M is stronger, you could always “supplement” a Valor, with a crazy Anaconda fit. Also, I bet, most people loving the Valor do not spend that much on their fully synergized Anaconda, so my guess is, you do not see a lot of fully blue/purple condas out there, would be interesting how big the difference really is to the valor, especially if you do not use gigas anyway.
T3 is that magical place where you play golden ships and R9s mostly in it’s own “endgame”, especially with engineers, the Conda is R8.
I found Anaconda much more fun than Styx but Valor is indeed superior. Don’t fly Anaconda into a bunch of Tacklers though.
I have on occasion all four engineers in the T3 4 slot line up… 2 Empire and 2 Fed
I believe the Anaconda has an extra CPU slot just like Phoenix
FED frigs - Anaconda and Valor
I use the Fed engineers as my speedy overweight\big target bullseye on my back wannabe gunship. Used to either escort friendly or chase down enemy bomb carriers. or used to get to an area fast and be on the constant move. It is not recommended to go toe to toe against another Empire engineer or even some Jericho Guard frigates.
Though they are faster than most tacklers and gunships… not recommended that you jump in the middle of group of them.
Empire
Phoenix and “The TANK” Styx
Well being they move about about as slow as a turtle… well the Phoenix moves about as slow as a snail and though I like to use it has a laundry list of short comings. Most noticibly no Capacitor slot.
I love my Styx… could use a bit more main weapon range. But the added bonus 20 % onto the active modules makes alot of difference.
What can Fed engies do that Empire ones cannot ?
I know they are faster but so what ?
Yeah, Anaconda is plain bad compared to the Premium Valor.
As for which one is “better” depends on gamemode and how you play.
Valor is better for when you and the team has to be mobile, like in the beacon capture modes. Styx is for Asteroid Wars where you can sit and tank and then duck behind a rock where you repair stations are.

Doesn’t matter much in the T3 kill squad meta because game play is so static but outside of that mobility can secure victories.

I like to look at this question in the same light as comparing Empire LRF (as Main gun gunship) vs Gunships, they do the same thing, kill-kill-kill but what is the difference? Mobility in it is own is very noticeable factor,
Lets say you are on Ancient Ruins map:
And you have to bounce between your side beacons, because enemy stole your center beacon
Feds would take about ~30-40 seconds depending on a build, and Empire is looking into 60+ per ONE WAY run, so it is 20 Seconds per single run. Same thing if you rush from your side beacon to enemy side beacon, you can do this and come back befor Empire make it one way.
As many said here already. I don’t think there is a question Anaconda vs Styx. If you don’t have/want one of the premium/DLC Engie stay with the Styx in T3
As Kostyan mentioned speed is important on big maps.
I fly the Valor and I love that ship:
-
same healing power as the Styx (which the Anaconda doesn’t have)
-
with 2 vernier modules it is very mobile and you can manage to evade many shots and even Covert Ops trying to Plasma Arc you
-
the max speed is around that of fighters so you can keep up with your team
-
the speed allows you fast position change meaning you can fly towards someone in need of heals (as long as you don’t get in a vulnerable/alone place)
Doesn’t matter much in the T3 kill squad meta because game play is so static but outside of that mobility can secure victories.
What Snib says. Playing an Anaconda after playing Styx for so long is so refreshing and liberating. You are not a static station of healing which your team centers around but a mobile ambulance which is not caught out of position.
Keep forgetting i cannot eat face full of missiles while trying out the anaconda just now. Only thing I noticed so far is I could chase after kills now. With Empire, its’ mostly waiting for people to get into my weapons range. With Anaconda - I get myself into range :yes_yes:
Fit adaptives and energy emitter and you can chase everything, don’t underestimate properly speedtanked fed ship. Attack pattern omega, ramming speed!
Engineer is like a fighter, so i play it like one:i dont use any ship modifiers that might hurt my speed, acceleration,or energy. Yes i know its quite weak then with my anaconda only having about 30k health, but my main weapon is a monster. I have mk4 coils fitted on it and it has a 60% critical chance. Tho im not sure if i should use EM torps or drones on it… I want to use EM torps because i can take advantage of the speed of anaconda to hit people with EM torps more easily but on the other hand drones can fly around and attack people
Heh, a valor was wrecking our team earlier today, and I pulled out the styx and it changed the tide of the game.

reckless Valor pilot I’d say.
Asking this is like asking why the Wolf M is better than the Phobos.
People should compare ships of the same rank, not of the same tier.
Oh yea … .nothing like flying a Valor with its ( attack drones) in to cause chaos… to those Bomb carrier and the escorts :yes_yes: . Makes for a good Bomb carrier too.
Styx is better for being the tactical BOMB Holder
