An Engineer and An Eclipse Launcher

I must have missed something big when I decided to not try any of those holiday weapons…

Something real big.

Yep.

I’m not digging the new weapons, to be honest.

The frig weapon can be pushed SUPER high on DPS with the right ammo.  Since it’s EM, it naturally travels very quickly, which means there’s room to slow it down for increased EM damage.  I have mine doing roughly 1800 damage per second, with 675 as the base damage.  It is traveling at 3690 m/s with a max distance of 3840 m.  You also get 245 pts of repair, which is enormously useful.  This is all at MK. I.  For ammo, I am using the Supernova deflector III.

A TIII MK. IV looks like this:

Damage (EM) - 846

DPS (EM) - 2257

Mass Repair - 305

The fact that a frig can now do that type of damage from a distance is fairly impressive.  In my opinion, it’s going to change frigate warfare significantly once the general players start catching on.  Sure, each shot of the coil mortar deals more damage, but it’s so slow-firing it can turn to garbage at close range.  Also, the projectile speed on the Eclipse is very high, so it will make difficult shots more possible.

I have used this weapon plenty in PVP, and it’s clear that it’s feared.  It rips through shields, and Jericho ships crumble easily.  We will see how things go.

Not sure what you are calculating but the weapon has the lowest sustained dps of all engineering frigate weapons, on par with the coil mortar. If you were going by the in-game dps numbers, they ignore heating rate and critical hits and are thus useless.

The highest dps weapon on a T3 engineering frigate by a mile is the heavy blaster with up to 4x higher dps than the ‘Ecplise’ (once fully spun up, depending on ammunition, modules, R6 implant and ship bonuses).

Of course these are theoretical numbers, each of the available weapons fills a different role and has different advantages (aoe + healing in case of the eclipse) so all of them are viable.

I’m also taking into account that shields are weak to EM.  CM is good for destroying hull, the EC has advantages against Jericho.

its weak, way worse than coil mortars, overheats too fast but has higher dps.

thats how you solve higher dps. overall its lower dps with the heating time.

no, it’s pretty much exactly the same theoretical overall dps as a coil mortar. T3 anyway, might be they scale differently in other tiers, didn’t check.

The higher rate of fire, lack of spread, and higher projectile speed give it a better chance to land shots than mortars.

Its also em damage, make of it what you will. As for me: POSITRON SNIPER MASTER RACE!

The higher rate of fire, lack of spread, and higher projectile speed give it a better chance to land shots than mortars.

My thoughts exactly.  I find that I get wrecked by the EC when they’re on a Styx.

I still like my mortars, but I’m used to them and lack a purple positron or the will to use loyalty on T3/T4.  I imagine eclipse will get a nerf but nothing major, only a slight tweaking.

EM tends to be more effective against shields, so is much stronger against Jericho guards where it’s most obvious.  The lower EM shield, often negative, will give the highest damage per shot figures, which affects your mindset.  If the resists are negative, your damage actually increases beyond your possible DPS.
